Beautify
Euless
Everyday
The meeting was brought to order by Chairman Ernest at 7:00pm.
Attendees were: Alice Ernest, Marland Ernest, Althea Staks, Patsy
Phillips, Bob Phillips, Dottie McKinney, George McKinney, Marge Crow,
and Helen Lightbody.
Chairman Ernest introduced our new member, Wadette Mathews.
Minutes of the last meeting were approved as written. Volunteer hours
were turned in to Dottie Mckinney. Discussion was held in regard to
the method of submitting volunteer hours. Dottie is keeping individual
envelopes on each volunteer and the reports will show by activity the
number of hours spent.
Corresponding Secretary Lightbody referred a letter of response
from Ms. Betty English showing the names of current members with "Keep
Texas Beautiful Inc." This list should reflect all currently paid
members. The list will be reviewed and any corrections/deletions
will be forwarded to Ms. English. In the past, some paid members did
not receive any updates from KTB, Inc. The updates are valuable to
assist us in planning our programs toward the Community Achievement
Program. Since our meetings are held only once a month, additional
copies of the UPDATES will be run for those not on the mailing list.
Treasurer, Patsy Phillips reported a balance of $532.40 at the
begining of the month. Expenses including plaques for the Highway 10
were $75.00, copier machine charges and litter bags - $312.11 leaving
a balance of minus (-) $264.98 Some concern was expressed in that the
"BEE" account had not actually received the $5,000.00 as was programmed
to be credited. Hopefully we will not be operating in the "Red" by next
month. Budgeting was discussed and it was determined that we need to
get more information in order to develop a format.
Tree Landscaping Programmer - Bob Phillips reported that we had
a Bar-BQ for all Highway 10 volunteers and plaques were awarded at this
uvent. Some 40 people attended at Kiddie Carr Park. Mr Phillips mentioned
that he removed the Lantana plants from the flower beds to store and to
prepare for next spring. The $18,000 worth of equipment and plants will
be provided by the Department of Highways within the next few months and
when received will be kept in areas necessary to protect them prior to
being used.
George McKinney reported on the Waste-in-Place program. The initally
scheduled three-part presentation seminar to be given in cooperation with
Ms. Donna Hibbits has been changed by combining two groups and using lead
teachers to be present.
Our Youth Project Committee which is very essential to our program
has not been represented this month. Ms. Althea Staks, who has done
much work with the scouts has volunteered to assist in this area. She
has many plans to enlist the participation of youth into BEE activities
which in turn will allow the scouts to earn badges. This is a vital part
of our program and Althea will need help and cooperation in this effort.
Suggestions were made to utilize the youth groups in Adopt a Park or
Adopt a street, spot, - program. The results will be worthwhile for the
youth, provide more awareness and pride to the citizens of Euless.
Some discussion was held with regard to our Arbor Day events.
This will be a highlight for the City. Since Carolyn Park was absent,
the specifics will be provided at the next meeting.
Chairman Ernest suggested that the "BEE" give some thought to
having one main objective or activity for the year that would attract
recognition for the City. A motion was made by Marland Ernest and
seconded by Helen Lightbody the "Adopt Main Street" will be our project
for the year.
The meeting was adjourned at approximately 10:00pm.
