HomeMy WebLinkAbout2018-04-09 Historical Preservation Committee Minutes April 9, 2018 CALL TO ORDER Chairperson, Mavy Wright, called the meeting to order at 10:00 a.m. The meeting was held at the Euless City Hall, Euless. MEMBERS PRESENT Mavy Wright, Doris Brown, Linda Pool, Barbara Collier, Gary Parker, Norma Lively, Helen Payton, Marilyn Long,Andy Weinzapfel, Don Martin, Peggy Vandiver,Anniece McKenna,Al Browning, Suzy McCormick and Michele Burger. STAFF PRESENT Director of Parks and Community Services, Ray McDonald and Project Coordinator, Ofa Faiva-Siale. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Gary Parker attended the March meeting but his name was not listed.Andy Weinzapfel made a motion to approve the minutes with the correction. Don Martin seconded the motion. All were in favor, minutes approved. TREASURER'S REPORT The previous balance was $10,883.30. There was a total deposit of$24, leaving a current balance of$10,907.30. STATUS OF CURRENT PROJECTS 1. Docents Report/Recruitment—Linda Pool and Mavy Wright a. Open house will be on Saturday,April 14, 2018.A sign-up sheet for docent volunteers was handed out. b. A group of about 20 people from First Baptist Euless will be touring Heritage Park on Thursday, May 24, 2018. 2. Acquisition—No Report 3. Inventory—Barbara Collier a. Reviewed each item on the "Acquisitions and Inventory Guidelines" handout. b. Include the guidelines with the minutes. c. Copy of the guidelines to be posted at the Museum. 4. Library Display—Requested this item be removed from the agenda until the Library remodeling is done. HPC MTG 051418 Page 1 of 3 5. Facebook—Linda Pool a. Will post photographs to the page. b. Will also post open house information. c. Will post that the WWI Display is available at the Museum. 6. Plaque—No Report 7. Euless Marker—It was decided that this item can be removed from the agenda until needed. 8. Display Signs—No Report 9. Publicity/Program/Speakers—Mavy Wright is working on a possible Mosier Valley presentation. 10. Historical Albums—Marilyn Long a. Will meet with the Euless Police Department for additional information for the Fallen Officer Album. b. Euless Church Album is done. c. Euless Cemetery Album is done. d. Founding Families Album is being worked on. e. City Album is extensive with lots of articles as far back as the 1900's. f. Working on the albums has been rewarding and exciting for the members. Marilyn Long,Anniece McKanna, Doris Brown and Mavy Wright have been working on the project. g. Staff is ordering supplies for the project. 11. Heritage Park—Gary Parker a. Framed the "Volunteer Fire Fighter" photo and hung it up in the Museum. b. Euless Museum open house is now listed in the AARP website. c. Mentioned that the screen door for the front porch is too big. d. Cabinets will cost about$900 (+/-). Had a difficult time finding similar cabinets and the man who previously made the cabinets for the Museum refused to make any more for the committee. Mavy Wright and Ray McDonald suggested coordinating with Recreation Manager, Frank Ocampo. e. After some discussion, Barbara Collier made a motion to allow Mr. Parker and Frank Ocampo to research the purchase of three additional cabinets and to consider$900 per cabinet as a fair price. f. Michele Burger has contacts at Haltom City that she will give to Mr. Parker. 12. Photography/Oral History—The members decided to remove this item from the agenda until further notice. 13.Artifact Recovery—Andy Weinzapfel a. Interested in metal detecting Minters Chapel Cemetery. 14. Historical Tree Program—Andy Weinzapfel a. Interested in collecting samples from the Trigg/ Euless Cotton Gin location. 15. Evolving History— a. Planning and Development has photographs from different locations and Betsy Deck has photographs of various locations as well. b. Ray will check with Planning and Development for their photo collection. HPC MTG 051418 Page 2 of 3 c. Marilyn Long will check with Betsy Deck regarding their photo collection. d. The committee decided to remove this item from the agenda until further need. CHAIRMAN'S REPORT 1. Weldon Cannon plans to attend the May meeting. He is no longer able to drive down from Temple, Texas for every meeting. 2. Reviewed items on the Project List from 2017: a. The McCormick Barn was cleaned and the tool display needs to be worked on in the near future. b. Café Sign has been fixed and can be removed from the list. c. Stovepipe for the schoolroom still needs to be found. Perhaps a wish list could be posted somewhere. d. Map Display—Staff will re-send the contact information of the staff member who can help Andy Weinzapfel scan the maps. e. Gary Parker and Barbara Collier will work on the box for the base of mannequin in the Military room. f. Edison antique light bulb for Iva Nail's room is complete. Remove from list. g. Trigg Family Tree—Barbara Collier took it home to scan. She will work on it and return the map soon. h. Everyone was invited to volunteer to work on any of the incomplete projects on the list. 3. Cabinets in the Museum kitchen—Ray McDonald is aware of the items location. 4. Handed out fans at the Euless Senior Center.A word was miss-spelled on the fans and it will be corrected. COMMITTEE REPORT 1. Gary Parker is redoing the "Tarrant" sign but the pole is missing. No one at the meeting knew where the pole was. Looking for suggestions on where to re-install the sign. 2. Barbara Collier reported that the WWI display is done. She thanked Ofa Faiva-Siale and staff for printing and putting out the display. The project was done in honor of the anniversary of WWI. It will remain at the Museum for the rest of 2018. Ms. Collier spent hours working on the project. ADJOURNMENT Gary Parker made a motion to adjourn the meeting and Suzy McCormick seconded the motion.
