HomeMy WebLinkAbout2018-03-01 i TEEN COURT ADVISORY BOARD MINUTES MEETING OF MARCH 1, 2018 STATE OF TEXAS § COUNTY OF TARRANT § CITY OF BEDFORD § The Teen Court Advisory Board of the cities of Hurst, Euless and Bedford, Texas met at 6:00 p.m. at Bedford City Hall on the 1st day of March 2018, with the following members present: HURST: Bien Camungol, Lorrie Dickerson EULESS: Renu Sloan BEDFORD: Jeannette Cook, Kelley Hall TEEN REPRESENTATIVES: Hurst Council Liaison — Bedford Council Liaison — Dave Gebhart Euless Council Liaison — HEB Teen Court Coordinator— Mindy Eichorst HEB Teen Court Assistant— Also present: Hurst City Secretary— Euless Staff Liaison —Teresa Alexander Bedford Court Manager— Doug Campbell Hurst Court Manager— HEB Teen Court Teen Liaison- Bedford Administrative Services Director- CALL TO ORDER Vice Chairperson Lorrie Dickerson called the meeting to order at 6:05 p.m. with a quorum of five Board Members present. APPROVAL OF MINUTES 1. Consider approval of the following Teen Court Advisory Board minutes: a) February 1, 2018 Regular Meeting Bien Camungol made a motion to approve the February 1, 2018 minutes and Renu Sloan seconded the motion and all were in favor. 2. Introductions -a kc/L - � I All of the Advisory Board Members and staff that were present introduced themselves. New Advisory Board Member Jeanette Cook, City of Bedford, was present and was introduced. OLD BUSINESS 3. Discuss ideas for fundraisers/sponsorships. Vice Chairperson Lorrie Dickerson mentioned possibly having a food truck night as a potential fundraiser. Jeannette Cook mentioned an idea Trivia Night, which she borrowed from Little Elm ISD, included a live auction, wine pull, and sponsors for each of the questions asked during the Trivia Night. She mentioned it was $20 per person to attend. 4. Discuss and possibly take action on items as they relate to the 2018 annual Teen Court Gala. Vice President Lorrie Dickerson has challenged the Board Members to try to have three silent auction items for the April 12, 2018 Teen Court Scholarship Gala. Teen Court Coordinator Mindy Eichorst asked if all of the items could be dropped off to the Teen Court Office either on or before the next Gala Committee Meeting. The menu would be a Mexican buffet to include: chicken fajitas, Spanish rice, refried beans and a mixed green salad. There was no dessert that was included with this choice and Coordinator Eichorst asked if they were okay with this or wanted to choose one for extra cost? The decision was made to not have the mixed green salad but have chocolate cake added. All Advisory Board Members were in favor. There was no speaker's fee for the speaker, Anthony Hardy, but a decision was made to present him with a gift card. Renu Sloan made a motion for a $150 visa gift card be presented to him and Kelley Hall seconded the motion, and all were in favor. Two members of the Scholarship Committee, Bien Camungol and Renu Sloan, were present and spoke about the senior teen volunteers who turned in applications. There were two candidates and Bien Camungol made a motion to recommend Jack Farley receive $1,500 and Ezekiel Sironen receive $500. Renu Sloan seconded the motion and all were in favor. NEW BUSINESS 5. Discuss and possibly take action on a date for the Teen Court Scholarship Gala Committee to meet. On Thursday, March 22, 2018 at 5:30 p.m,, the Gala Committee will meet in the downstairs conference room at 2000 Forest Ridge Dr. Building A. 6. Discuss and possibly take action on a date for the next Teen Court Advisory Board meeting. The next Advisory Board meeting will be on Thursday, June 7, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. at Bedford City Hall. REPORTS i Teen Court Coordinator Mindy Eichorst went over the Coordinator's Report for the month of February 2018 and provided the Finance Report for January 2018.
