HomeMy WebLinkAbout2018-04-02 Regular Meeting Parks and Leisure Services Board April 2, 2018 CALL TO ORDER The regular meeting of the Parks and Leisure Services Board was called to order at 6:59 p.m. on Monday, April 2, 2018 in the Council Chambers of the Euless City Hall building by Chairman Randy Jones. Other Board Members present: John Raab, Steve Doty, Roger Sickler, Salman Bhojani. Members absent: Tiffany Smith, Jason Reyes and Mohib Nawab. Staff members present: Director of Parks and Community Services Ray McDonald, Parks Manager Terry Boaz, Recreation Manager Frank Ocampo and Administrative Secretary Jordan Peterson. Visitors present: Loretta Doty INVOCATION Mr. Sickler gave the invocation. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Chairman Jones asked if there were any additions or corrections to the minutes from the March 5, 2018 regular meeting. Mr. Sickler made the motion to approve the minutes as presented and was seconded by Mr. Raab. The vote was unanimous. I. Board Member Reports a. Steve Doty— Midway & Blessing Branch: No items to report. b. John Raab—JA Carr & Kiddy Carr: Part of fence needs fixing. c. Tiffany Smith — Preserve & McCormick: Not present. d. Roger Sickler- Reflection &VOBC: Porta potties not cleaned. e. Jason Reyes—South Euless & Heritage: Not present. f. Salman Bhojani—West Park & Wilshire: No items to report. g. Mohib Nawab —Bob Eden &Trailwood: Not present. h. Randy Jones — Parks at Texas Star: Trash cans needs replacing and end caps replaced on bleachers. i. Special Event Report: March 2— Professor D Concert— 175 people Ugcomin� April 6—Vegas Stars Concert—Tx Star Golf Course at 7 pm April 28—Arbor Daze—Midway Park 10 am —9 pm Parks and Leisure Services Board Page 1 II. Volunteer of the Month Chairman Jones announced that the volunteer of the quarter this quarter was Christina Yu. She is the president of the National Honor Society at Trinity High school and is instrumental in helping organize all high school volunteers for each of our events. In addition to organizing other students, she herself recruits other volunteers and volunteers for events herself. She has been a huge asset to the volunteer program at the City of Euless. Ms. Yu was not present; her award will be delivered to her. III. Business of the Tree Board Tree Board Chairman Jason Reyes reported the following for March: a. Total man hours for March 1-31 = 673 • 313.00 Horticulture • 232.00 Forestry • 96.00 Greenhouse • 0.00 Special Projects • 32.00 Training Trimmed trees on trails at Villages of Bear Creek Park. Trimmed the dead Photinia's at Westpark. i Trimmed Crepe Myrtles at Villages, Midway, Trojan Trail and P.A.T.S. Trimmed trees at Bob Eden Park along residential fence line. Trimmed trees at Old Fire station two. IV. Other New Business Chairman Jones suggested moving the meeting time to 6:00 p.m. — will add item to next months' agenda and board will vote on official change of meeting time. V. Input from City Council Members and Visitors No input or comments. ADJOURNMENT Chairman Jones gave the benediction.
