PUBLIC HEARING, FISCAL YEAR 1998-1999 BUDGET
President Shields opened the public hearing at 3:20 p.m. to receive input on the Crime
Control and Prevention District Budget for Fiscal Year 1998 - 1999.
Police Chief Gary McKamie reported that the proposed budget for Fiscal Year 98-99 was
very similar to the budget for Fiscal Year 97-98. One increase being sought was
$30,000, up from $17,000 in the current year, for part-time salaries to hire 7 or 8 high
school students in the cadet program. Chief McKamie noted that Euless is the first City
in this area to have this program.
Chief McKamie said a slight increase is budgeted for all salaries to coincide with
anticipated raises across-the-board.

Chief McKamie stated that certification/college pay is a new item in this year's budget.
The City Council made this provision in the City's general fund budget of the current year.
Chief McKamie stated the revenue projections are more realistic this year and he
believed they would result in more accurate budgeting.
Chief McKamie stated that all excess funds will go to the building fund for the new police
facility. The $36,000 budgeted for Instruments and Apparatus will be used for the
purchase of a live-scan finger print system. He stated they hope to have the entire finger
print system paid for when the new building is opened in order to eliminate it from the
building furnishings cost. Chief McKamie stated that the State of Texas has purchased
some new automated fingerprint identification system equipment, and their unused
surplus will be sold. The City of Euless hopes to buy some of it.
Director of Finance Loretta Getchell reported that all designated monies have been
moved together into one fund for the Police Building Fund.
Chief McKamie reported that revenues in the current year are doing quite well and that
expenditures are about where we would expect them to be this far into the year.
Chief McKamie stated that the Crime Control and Prevention District Board of Directors
will vote on the proposed Fiscal Year 1998 - 1999 budget at their meeting scheduled for
Tuesday, June 23, 1998 at 3:30 p.m.
There being no other proponents or any opponents present, President Shields closed the
public hearing at 3:40 p.m.
