Dear Citizens,
Major reno-
vations at the
Mary Lib Saleh
Euless Public
Library start
soon. Part of the
transformation
is a 10-foot tall,
30-foot wide glass wall that has
bubbles floating up to the ceiling
as color-changing lights illuminate
them. It’s going to be so pretty!
The Euless Library Foundation
is raising money for the Bubble
Wall. To learn more about the
renovations and to watch two
short, Bubble Wall videos, visit
www.eulesslibraryfoundation.org.
We have to close our library on
August 31 to move its contents
to a new temporary location. On
September 17, we will then re-open
the library in its temporary spot at
1100 Westpark Way.
Many of our fun special events and
storytimes will continue to take
place at the Simmons Center. We
realize moving the library (even
temporarily) is an inconvenience,
but I expect that once you see the
revamped library in 2020, you will
think it’s all been worth it!

Call 811 Before You Dig:
It is the Law!
Calling 811 Reduces Risk of Damaged
Utility Lines by 99 Percent
Did you know that, before you dig, the law
requires you to call 811 to have all buried
utility lines located and marked? August 11
(8/11) serves as a reminder to always call 811
before digging.
Calling 811 connects you to your local one-
call center, which notifies the appropriate
utility companies of your intent to dig.
Professional locators then go to the digging
site to mark the locations of underground
utility-owned lines with flags and spray paint,
free of charge.
All excavators should call 811 at least three
business days before digging on public or
private property. When you call 811 before
digging, the chance of hitting an underground
utility line decreases to 99.9 percent.
Since 2008, Atmos Energy has seen a 47
percent increase in requests by the public to
have underground natural gas lines marked.
Once underground utility lines are marked,
it is important to take special care around all
line markings by digging by hand.
“The greatest risk to our natural gas pipelines
is accidental damage while digging,” says John
Paris, president of Atmos Energy’s Mid-Tex
division. “Even minor damage, such as a scrape,
dent or crease in a pipeline or its coating, can
cause a leak.”
Striking a single line can cause injury, repair
costs, fines and inconvenient outages. Every
digging project, no matter how large or small,
warrants a call to 811. Installing a mailbox,
building a deck, planting a tree and laying a
patio are all examples of digging projects that
need a call to 811 before starting.
For more information about 811 and safe
digging practices, visit these websites: Call811.
com or AtmosEnergy.com/811.
Clear the Shelters
Saturday, August 18, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Euless Animal Shelter
1517 Westpark Way
Adopt a homeless pet. The life you save may
become your new best friend! During the Clear
the Shelters event, the Euless Animal Shelter
is once again waiving its adoption fees for all
dogs, cats, puppies and kittens.
In 2014, Clear the Shelters began in the DFW
area to help ease the overcrowding that occurs
in shelters every summer. This pet adoption
drive quickly spread to cities across the U.S. In
fact, during last year’s event, more than 80,000
pets from over 900 shelters across the country
found their forever homes.
Join us August 18 as we seek to Clear the Shelters
and find new homes for some amazing pets!

Solicitors Permit
Euless requires solicitors to wear an
identifiable traffic safety vest and an
identification badge. If a solicitor
appears at your door, ask to see
their permit if it’s not prominently
displayed. The badge will provide the
name and address of the solicitor,
solicitor’s employer, principal or
organization, kind of goods or
services to be sold or offered for sale.
In hopes to keep deceptive practices
out of Euless, solicitors who ask for
cash deposits or advance payments
for future delivery of services are now
required to pay a bond.
If the solicitor is in any way rude,
discourteous, or otherwise suspicious,
call 9-1-1 and an officer will respond
to investigate the situation. The Chief
of Police can suspend permits if
necessary.
Tips to recognize a registered solicitor:
• Must wear a traffic safety vest and visibly display the
issued City of Euless badge
• Are not allowed to distribute to a house with a posted
sign that says “NO SOLICITORS” or “NO TRESPASSING”
• Are not allowed before 8:30 a.m. or after dark or 9 p.m.,
whichever is earlier on a given day
• Are not permitted to place a flyer outside a home if there
are existing flyers present
• A minor must be under the constant supervision of a
person eighteen years of age or older
There are a few exceptions to the solicitors’ ordinance that
do not require registration with the City including: political
or religious support or recruitment, and government
employees posting code violations, water restrictions,
utility outages, burn bans, special event impacts, or security
issues etc.
For more information or questions regarding the updates
to this ordinance, please call 817-685-1500.
