Minutes
June 11, 2018
CALL TO ORDER
Chairperson, Mavy Wright, called the meeting to order at 10:00 a.m. The meeting was held
at the Euless City Hall, Euless.
MEMBERS PRESENT
Bill Byers, Suzy McCormick, Peggy Vandiver,Anniece McKanna, Iris Elliott, Don Martin,
Gary Parker, Barbara Collier, Doris Brown,Andy Weinzapfel,Weldon Cannon, Helen
Payton, Faye Stinneford and Al Browning.
STAFF PRESENT
Director of Parks and Community Services, Ray McDonald, Recreation Manager Frank
Ocampo, Paul Smith, Division Chief/ Fire Marshal and Don Sheffield, Building Official.
VISITORS PRESENT
Patty Benoit
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Al Browning made a motion to approve the minutes. Peggy Vandiver seconded the motion.
All were in favor, minutes approved.
TREASURER'S REPORT
The previous balance was $10,938.30. There was a total deposit of$123.00 leaving a
current balance of$11,061.30.
STATUS OF CURRENT PROJECTS
1. Fire Marshal Paul Smith and Building Official Don Sheffield discussed the following
regarding the Blacksmith Shop at Heritage Park:
a. There's a lot of liability and insurance issues with the shop including fire hazard,
fumes and vapors.
b. Building was not designed to host a blacksmith display but only a static display.
c. Lots of code issues, in current condition,the building is not compliant and would
have to be totally redone.
d. It needs a sprinkler system and fire lane access. Needs a hood and an exhaust
system and the whole park is at risk if the shop is used as a working blacksmith
shop.

e. The distance of the buildings from any open flame on the property has to be
considered as this is a fire hazard, including the Pop Corn Popper at the
Christmas at the Park event.
f. The committee needs to decide what they want to do with the building and the
Fire Marshal can guide the committee in the right direction.
2. Weldon Cannon asked if some sort of fire detection system can be installed at
Heritage Park in case of a fire. Staff was asked to research the idea including cost
estimate, etc. and report back.
3. Committee asked if the city can put out No Smoking signs at the park.
STATUS OF CURRENT PROJECTS
1. Docents and Volunteer Rep ort/Recruitment—M avy Wright
a. 19 people from Euless First Baptist Church toured the Museum.
b. 15 people toured the Museum during open house on Saturday,June 9, 2018.
c. A group from Wichita Falls will be touring the facilities on June 21, 2018.
2. Acquisition—Bill Byers indicated that Karen Cromer donated a Pincushion Rocking
Chair used by the Cromer family.
3. Facebook—Linda Pool is doing a good job posting on Facebook.
4. Plaque—No Report
5. Display Signs—No Report
6. Publicity/Program/Speakers—Mavy Wright
a. Contacted Quanah Parker's great-great-grandson, Lance Tahmahkera. He will
give a presentation during open house on Saturday, October 13, 2018.
7. Historical Albums—Marilyn Long
a. Work is ongoing. There are no major changes since the last report.
8. Heritage Park—Gary Parker
a. Weldon Cannon's Tarrant sign has been repainted. Betty Fuller took a
photograph of Weldon Cannon holding the sign to commemorate 100 years
of when the first train came through Tarrant.
9. Artifact Recovery—Andy Weinzapfel
a. One of the residents on Tarrant Drive is interested in doing an artifact search.
b. Cannot find a 1905 map.
c. Wants to add maps to the flipchart.
10. Inventory—Barbara Collier asked to put out a display at the Museum for
Constitution week.The committee voted and approved the idea.
a. Bill Byers made a motion to put up a display starting September 8, 2018.
Weldon Cannon seconded the motion.All were in favor. Motion carried.
CHAIRMAN'S REPORT
1. Linda Pool,Joe Cannon and Norma Lively were unable to attend today's meeting.
COMMITTEE REPORT
1. Weldon Cannon reported on the following:

a. Would like the name of the water tower on the mural changed back to its
original name. This can be done on the next printing of the "Mural Brochure".
b. He can not make the regular meetings any longer as the drive down is getting
harder to do.
2. Gary Parker would like to build their own frames for all the photographs in the
building. Mavy Wright wants to work with Mr. Parker on the frames and print signs
large enough to read.

a. Wants to know if committee should make a video of all the artifacts in the
museum. Could ask Betsy Deck to help with the video.
b. Would like to post Weldon Cannon's Tarrant presentation onto the website.
Will find out the best format in order to be able to do that.
c. Historical Tree Program—Andy Weinzapfel is still working with Pikes Peak
on Yate Trees.
ADJOURNMENT
Suzy McCormick made a motion to adjourn the meeting and Andy Weinzapfel seconded the
motion. Motion carried.
The meeting adjourned at 11:05 a.m.
