HomeMy WebLinkAbout2018-06-01TEEN COURT ADVISORY BOARD MINUTES MEETING OF JUNE 1, 2018 STATE OF TEXAS § COUNTY OF TARRANT § CITY OF BEDFORD § The Teen Court Advisory Board of the cities of Hurst, Euless and Bedford, Texas met at 6:00 p.m. at Bedford City Hall on the 7th day of June 2018, with the following members present: HURST: Lorrie Dickerson EULESS: Robin Edwards BEDFORD: Jeannette Cook, Kathleen Toms TEEN REPRESENTATIVES: Hurst Council Liaison — Rita Frick Bedford Council Liaison — Euless Council Liaison — HEB Teen Court Coordinator — Mindy Eichorst HEB Teen Court Assistant — Also present: Hurst City Secretary — Euless Staff Liaison — Teresa Alexander Bedford Court Manager — Doug Campbell Hurst Court Manager — HEB Teen Court Teen Liaison - Bedford Administrative Services Director - CALL TO ORDER Vice Chairperson Lorrie Dickerson called the meeting to order at 6:05 p.m, with a quorum of four Board Members present. APPROVAL OF MINUTES 1. Consider approval of the following Teen Court Advisory Board minutes: a) March 1, 2018 Regular Meeting b) March 22, 2018 Committee Meeting Jeannette Cook made a motion to approve the March 1, 2018 regular meeting minutes and committee meeting minutes and Robin Edwards seconded the motion and all were in favor. 2. Introductions No Introductions. OLD BUSINESS 3. Discuss ideas for fundraisers/sponsorships. Chairperson Kathleen Toms asked about having a food truck at the Hurst Tree Lighting Event that is held annually. There were a few questions of who to contact at the City and what permits might be needed. Jeannette Cook mentioned a trivia night for adults in the fall. She mentioned having a silent auction, providing food and drinks, and finding a facility to hold it at (possibly the Bedford Public Library). She suggested charging $10/$15 per person and having someone who would be able to get appropriate questions. 4. Discuss the 2018 annual Teen Court Scholarship Gala. Teen Court Coordinator Mindy Eichorst handed out a sheet that had the expenses and deposits from the Gala. Ms. Eichorst congratulated all of the Board Members for their hard work on getting sponsors, donations, and people to attend the Gala. All For G0000000d assisted with the silent auction and brought less expensive items. There was a total of over $4,000 that was raised at the Gala. Ms. Eichorst advised this was the first year a seating chart was needed due to the amount of sponsors and attendees. The two Teen Recipients would be reaching out with their pertinent college information so the $2,000 would be depleted within the next month. NEW BUSINESS 5. Discuss and possibly take action on dates for the 2019 Teen Court Scholarship Gala. The Advisory Board Members suggested the following dates for the 2019 Teen Court Scholarship Gala: April 4, April 11, and April 18, 2019. The members asked if Coordinator Eichorst could check both the Bedford Public Library and Hurst Conference Center. Jeannette Cook motioned to have April 11, 2019 as the first choice, April 4, 2019 as a second choice, and April 18, 2019 as a third choice and Robin Edwards seconded this motion. All were in favor. 6. Discuss and possibly take action on a date for the next Teen Court Advisory Board meeting. The next Advisory Board meeting will be on Thursday, October 4, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. at Bedford City Hall. REPORTS Teen Court Coordinator Mindy Eichorst went over the Coordinator's Report for the months of April and May 2018 and provided the Finance Report for March and April 2018. ADJOURNMENT Robin Edwards entered a motion for the meeting to be adjourned and all vot in fa r. The meeting was adjourned at 6:53 p.m. fCat leen Toms, Chairperson Kathleen Toms seconded the motion
