HomeMy WebLinkAbout2018-09-06 MARY LIB SALEH EULESS PUBLIC LIBRARY MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING OF THE LIBRARY BOARD THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 6, 2018 ITEM NO. 1 CALLED TO ORDER A regular meeting of the Euless Public Library Board was called to order by Chairman Snitz at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 6, 2018, in the Pre-Council Room of City Hall, 201 N. Ector Drive. Those present included Chairman Barney Snitz, Board Members Carol Kveck, Mike McGehee,Jim Hamilton,and Alternate Leslie Kane. Vice Chairman Allan Gibbs,Board Member Chris McAllister and Alternate Magen Brown were not present. Chairman Snitz confirmed that a quorum was present. STAFF MEMBERS PRESENT Sherry Knight, Library Administrator Mollie Snapp, Administrative Assistant VISITORS LuAnn Portugal ITEM NO. 2 APPROVED LIBRARY BOARD MINUTES Chairman Snitz asked for a motion to accept the minutes of the regular meeting held August 2, 2018. The motion was made by Board Member Hamilton and seconded by Board Member McAllister. ITEM NO. 3 WELCOMED VISITORS Chairman Snitz welcomed all visitors present. ITEM NO. 4 PRESENTED LIBRARY ADMINISTRATOR'S REPORT ❖ Summer Program Update Library Administrator Sherry Knight gave a presentation on the programs held at the Simmons Center during June and July and the results from the surveys distributed at each event. ❖ Temporary Relocation and Remodel Update Ms. Knight gave an update of the progress made moving to the temporary location at 1100 Westpark Way. Chairman Snitz inquired about employee parking and Ms. Knight stated that the employees would park off site. Ms. Knight informed the Board that the Parks department created all of the outdoor decoration and landscaping. ❖ Classes and Events Update Ms. Knight informed the Board that the children's programs would take place at the Simmons Center utilizing the park and playground for the classes. Chairman Snitz inquired about the influx of children that visited the main library after school and Ms. Knight stated that they would wait to see what the effect was before planning a new program. ITEM NO. 5 REPORTS Library Board Chairman Chairman Snitz gave a review of the "Aloha" event given by the Euless Library Foundation on August 31, 2018. Ms. Knight congratulated Board Member McGehee for spearheading the event. Board Member McGehee thanked all of those that helped to make it a success. Library Board Vice-Chairman Library Board Members Board Member Kveck inquired about the location of the book locker and Ms. Knight stated that it would be on the south side of City Hall. ITEM NO. 6 PUBLIC COMMENTS LuAnn Portugal inquired if the library was promoting the digital library while at the temporary location. Ms. Knight confirmed that she would make sure our social media manager would take care of it. Ms. Portugal inquired about the fundraising total of the "Aloha" event and Ms. Knight stated that the ELF raised over$6,000. LuAnn updated the Board on the latest developments around the City. ITEM NO. 7 ADJOURNMENT Chairman Snitz asked for a motion to adjourn. Board Member McGehee made the motion and Board Member Kveck seconded.
