HomeMy WebLinkAbout2018-11-05 Regular Meeting Parks and Leisure Services Board November 5, 2018 CALL TO ORDER The regular meeting of the Parks and Leisure Services Board was called to order at 6:58 p.m. on Monday, November 5, 2018, in the Council Chambers of the Euless City Hall building by Chairman Randy Jones. Other Board Members present: John Raab, Roger Sickler, Jason Reyes and Steve Doty. Members absent: Mohib Nawab Staff members present: Recreation Manager Frank Ocampo. Visitors present: David Osborne, Karen Osborne, David Tucker, Ofa Faiva-Siale, Mavy Wright INVOCATION Roger Sickler gave the invocation. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Chairman Jones asked if there were any additions or corrections to the minutes from the October 1, 2018 regular meeting. Mr. Sickler made the motion to'approve the minutes as presented and was seconded by Mr. Raab. The vote was unanimous. 1. Board Member Reports a. Steve Doty—Midway & Blessing Branch: Both parks look good. b. Steve Doty—J.A. Carr & Kiddie Carr: Both parks look good. c. John Raab—West Park &Wilshire Park: Noted puddling in outfields at West Park d. Roger Sickler—Villages of Bear Creek & Reflection: Both parks looked good. e. Jason Reyes- South Euless & Heritage: Both parks looked good. f. Monhib Nawab- Bob Eden Park &Trailwood: Not present. g. Chairman Jones—Parks at Texas Star& Preserve: Both parks looked good. h. Special Event Report: • October 6, 2018 — Texas Junior Angler Fishing event at Wilshire Park had approximately 200 people attend • October 6, 2018 — Junk in the Trunk garage sale at the Senior Center had 75 vendors selling throughout the day • October 27, 2018— Halloween Trunk or Treat event in the Senior Center parking lot had approximately 5,000 people in attendance Parks and Leisure Services Board Page 1 Upcoming • December 1—Christmas Parade of Lights • December 8— Heritage Park Christmas II. Volunteer of the Quarter a. Chairman Jones announced the Volunteer of the Quarter award goes to Mavy Wright. Ms. Wright goes above and beyond in her volunteer duties and has been the Historical Preservation Committee Chair for the last two years. She is recognized as a great leader, go-getter and follows through on all her commitments. She is also on the Calloway Cemetery Committee. III. Business of the Tree Board Tree Board Chairman Jason Reyes reported the following for October: a. Total man hours for October 1—31 = 785 • 459.00 Horticulture • 223.00 Forestry • 69.00 Greenhouse • 6.00 Special Projects • 28.00 Training • Assisted in removing trees and limbs at Texas Star Golf Course after storms • Removed trees and limbs throughout the city due to storms • Tree removal at Midway and Main St. right of way • Trimmed trees at South Euless Dog Park IV. Athletic Association Report a. Bedford Euless Soccer Association —David Osborne • Over view of 2018 season and registration numbers • Review of budget and wish list of amenities at Texas Star V. Staff Report— Frank Ocampo Parks and Leisure Services Board Page 2 r � • Reported on staffing changes at the Euless Family Life Center: Ryan Turner is the new Senior Center Supervisor, Shelli Walsh is the new Senior Center Coordinator and Elizabeth Johnson was promoted to Recreation Superintendent VI. Other New Business None. VII. Input from City Council Members and Visitors No input or comments ADJOURNMENT Chairman Jones gave the benediction.
