Minutes
April 11, 2011
CALL TO ORDER
Chair, Bill Golden, called the meeting to order at 10:01 a.m. The meeting was held at City Hall at
201 North Ector Drive, Euless, TX.
MEMBERS PRESENT
Betty Fuller, Bill Golden, David Massey, Don Martin, Council Member Donna Mickan, Doris
Brown, Faye Stinneford, Gary Fieldsend, Gary Parker, Helen Gleghorn, Helen Voss, Iris Elliott,
Iva Nail, Joe Cannon, Leah Bennett, Mavy Wright, Michele Burger, Norma Lively, Perry
Brockmeyer, Robert Nail, Shirley Mercer, Veva Lou Massey and Weldon Cannon.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Don Martin made a motion to approve the minutes. Helen Voss seconded the motion, motion
approved.
TREASURER'S REPORT
Treasurer, Barbara Collier, was not at the meeting.
DOCENT'S REPORT/RECRUITMENT
1. Bill Byers, Susan Ellis, Helen Payton and Barbara Collier were reported absent.
2. There were ten visitors at open house on Saturday, April 9, 2011.
3. David and Veva Lou Massey volunteered to docent during open house on Saturday, May 14,
2011.
4. The City's senior program will tour Heritage Park on Wednesday, May 18, 2011. Betty Fuller,
Leah Bennett and Robert and Iva Nail volunteered to docent.
STATUS OF CURRENT PROJECTS
1. Fuller and Himes Loa House Displays: Faye Stinneford has a friend who would like to donate a
dresser to the museum. Michele Burger also has furniture from the 30's and 40's she would like
to donate to the museum. Helen Voss indicated that this was a good idea.

2. McCormick Barn Displays: Nothing new was reported.
3. Library Displays: Betty Fuller reported that artifacts inside the display cases in the Library
don't have to be removed right away. The historical tiles aren't arriving as quickly as was first
anticipated.
4. Website/Library Photo Display: Gary Fieldsend updated the photo display at the Library. The
Flickr account has approximately 18,000 views. He noted that the Easy Way Market photo is
the most popular photo with the most views.
5. Evolving History Project: Nothing new was reported.
6. Photo Album Sub-committee: Betty Fuller and Helen Gleghorn worked for three hours on the
albums. They've completed the "Founding Families" album and will continue working on the
others.
7. Ruth Millican Center: Betty Fuller and Helen Voss toured the White Settlement museum.
They have many ideas for the Ruth Millican Center Museum. Mrs. Voss spoke with Gary
McKamie and was assured that there is funding available to purchase what the Committee
needs for the new Museum. It was reported that Police Chief, Mike Brown, agreed to let the
Committee display some of their historical documents, artifacts, etc. at the new museum. The
idea of having TV monitors with video/virtual tours inside the new museum was also discussed.
8. Plaque Sub-committee: Nothing new had been added.
9. Local Marker Sub-Committee: Staff reported that there hasn't been any new marker
application.
10. McCormick Barn/Outdoor Update: Bill Golden inquired about the possibility of having
electricity in the barn for lighting. He would like to use the corn crib to display farm
implements. Staff will look into the inquiry and report back to the Committee.
11. Fuller House: It was reported that cracks are appearing on the walls inside the Fuller House,
the wall paper is coming loose in various places and one of the doors in the building is coming
loose. It was mentioned that the A/C is out. Staff will take care of the problem.
CHAIRMAN'S REPORT
1. Bill Golden reported and/or discussed the following:
• Discussed with the members Jan Bellamy's talents and willingness to help the Committee
with various projects. Mr. Golden would like to encourage her efforts and the members
agreed. Robert Nail made a motion to appoint Ms. Bellamy as an official advisor to the
Committee until her membership is confirmed. Betty Fuller seconded the motion, motion
approved.
• Reminded everyone to ask visitors about how they found out about open house, whether
from Euless Today, signs, cable channel, etc.
• Discussed the Coptic Church tour. Everyone that went on the tour was very complimentary
and appreciative of Father Ghobrial, his family and his church members. They put in a lot

of effort to make the tour worthwhile for the Committee. Council Member Donna Mickan
made a motion to give a $100 honorarium to the church in appreciation of their generosity.
Robert Nail seconded the motion, no one opposed, motion approved.
• Thanked the staff for all their help.
STAFF REPORT
1. Gave a reminder for everyone who docents to initial near his/her name on the list posted in the
Fuller House.
2. Gave a reminder that the DFW Writers Club previously indicated their willingness to assist
with any writing projects for the Committee.
OTHER REPORTS
1. Michele Burger has photos from inside the Western Hills Inn. She will make copies and donate
them to the Museum.
2. Some members mentioned the idea of having a full time staff member work for the Committee.
3. Council Member Leon Hogg reported that thirty-five graves have been identified at Calloway.
Tombstones are being made to identify these locations. Sixty-three unidentified graves still
remain.
4. Betty Fuller thanked the staff for all the historical advertisements and the recent historical trivia
contest in Euless Today.
5. Michele Burger noted that the DFW Writers Club is now moved into the Simmons Center and
they are a huge group. She noted that they take up all available parking spaces including the
grass and have their own security guards.
6. Gary Fieldsend suggested conducting video recording of various subjects for the oral history
project. He has a camera he can use for the project. The Committee was very supportive of the
idea. Gary Fieldsend and Betty Fuller will work on questions for the project.
7. Several family members discussed the recent passing of Jacle Cannon Shanklin. Weldon
Cannon reminisced about an interview he did with her, he last saw her four weeks ago.
8. David Massey asked if anyone knew of an old Euless family by the last name of Pappas. It's
one of the names on the Calloway mailing list and he was curious if anyone knew them.
ADJOURNMENT
Faye Stinneford made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Gary Parker seconded the motion. Motion
approved.
The meeting adjourned at 11:15 a.m.
