HomeMy WebLinkAbout2018-12-03Regular Meeting Parks and Leisure Services Board December 3, 2018 CALL TO ORDER The regular meeting of the Parks and Leisure Services Board was called to order at 6:40 p.m. on Monday, December 3, 2018, at the Parks Maintenance Administrative building by Chairman Randy Jones. Other Board Members present: John Raab, Roger Sickler, Jason Reyes, Mohib Nawab and Steve Doty. Members absent: None. Staff members present: Parks &Community Services Director Ray McDonald, Parks Manager Terry Boaz and Recreation Manager Frank Ocampo. Visitors present: None. INVOCATION Randy Jones gave the invocation. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Chairman Jones asked if there were any additions or corrections to the minutes from the November 5, 2018 regular meeting. Mr. Sickler made the motion to approve the minutes as presented and was seconded by Mr. Raab. The vote was unanimous. I. Board Member Reports a. Steve Doty— Midway & Blessing Branch: Both parks look good. b. Steve Doty —J.A. Carr & Kiddie Carr: Both parks look good. c. John Raab — West Park & Wilshire Park: Both parks looked good. d. Roger Sickler — Villages of Bear Creek & Reflection: Both parks looked good. Mr. Sickler asked about getting new placards for the trees and was informed they just arrived and will be installed. e. Jason Reyes- South Euless & Heritage: Both parks looked good. f. Monhib Nawab- Bob Eden Park & Trailwood: Both parks looked good. g. Chairman Jones — Parks at Texas Star & Preserve: Both parks looked good. h. Special Event Report: • December 1, 2018 —Parade of Lights had 58 floats and approximately 3,500 people attend Parks and Leisure Services Board Page 1 Upcoming • December 8 — Heritage Park Christmas II. Business of the Tree Board Tree Board Chairman Jason Reyes reported the following for October: a. Total man hours for November 1— 30 = 1,104 • 465.00 Horticulture • 298.00 Forestry • 84.00 Greenhouse • 257.00 Special Projects • 0.00 Training • One tree was planted and there were six tree related purchases • Planted a Monterey Oak at City Hall for the 6t" Annual Texas Arbor Day • Trimmed trees at the Dog Park parking lot • Trimmed trees at Parks at Texas Star Complex • Purchased trees for Parks at Texas Star • Cleaned up limbs in the parks system caused by storm damage • Gathered acorns and they are currently frozen in preparation for the Arbor Daze tree giveaway III. Parks and Community Services Reports a. Staff Report — Frank Ocampo • Reported on upgrade of recreation software system which should be live by the middle of January. The software should make the registration process easier for customers and staff. Also reported on upgrades to the playbook and ideas to make registration easier through QR codes in the playbook. Finally, reported on addition of virtual tours on the website for Simmons and all of our pavilions that are available for rent. b. Director's Report —Ray McDonald • Update on progress of Carr Park renovation • Reported on the renovations taking place at the recreation center which include new flooring, a redesigned fitness room counter, drainage and ventilation in the locker rooms and new furniture for the lobby. • Reported on renovation of Softball World. IV. Other New Business Parks and Leisure Services Board Page 2 Mr. Sickler inquired as to whether or not there are upgrades scheduled for West Park. Mr. McDonald informed him that currently West Park is not on the list of parks due for immediate upgrades. Due to results of a needs analysis, there were other parks that took precedence in needing upgrades/renovations. V. Input from Citv Council Members and Visitors No input or comments ADJOURNMENT Chairman Jones gave the benediction.
