Parks and Leisure Services Board
September 12, 2011
CALL TO ORDER
The regular meeting of the Parks and Leisure Services Board was called to order at 7:00 p.m. on
Monday, September 12, 2011, in the Council Chambers of the Euless City Hall building by
Chairman Eric Owens. Other Board Members present: Randy Jones, John Raab, Carroll Scott, Alex
Horton, Darrel Knobloch and alternates Travis Riffle and Tiffany Smith. Members absent: None.
Staff members present: Director of Parks and Community Services Ray McDonald, Parks
Superintendent Terry Boaz, Parks Manager Randy Smith, Recreation Superintendent Michael
Davenport and Administrative Secretary Linda Lux.
Visitors present: Carrie Miller (Woodchase), Amy Stephens, Aman Sunderji and family, Mr. and
Mrs. Cameron Evans and Council Member Leon Hogg.
INVOCATION
Randy Jones gave the invocation.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Chairman Owens asked if there were any additions or corrections to the minutes from the August
1, 2011 regular meeting. Darrel Knobloch made the motion to approve the minutes as presented
and Randy Jones seconded the motion. The vote was unanimous.
I. Board Member's Reports
Carroll Scott—Reflection Park, Villages of Bear Creek Park—reported no items of concern
Alex Horton - Midway Park, Blessing Branch Park—reported no items of concern
John Raab -South Euless Park, Heritage Park—reported no items of concern

Chairman Owens- Parks at Texas Star Athletic Complex—reported no items of concern
Chairman Owens commented on the following recent special event held in August:
• August 20th — Junior Anglers Day - Wilshire Park — 150 people attended. The kids caught
lots of fish and had a good time.
Chairman Owens mentioned the next upcoming events in September and October:
• Saturday, September 17th— KidsFest—Campus West—10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
• Saturday, October 1St—Stars over Euless—Bob Eden Park—8:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
Chairman Owens thanked everyone for their reports tonight.
II. Volunteer of the Month
Chairman Owens presented Aman Sunderji with the September 2011 Volunteer of the Month
plaque. He mentioned that Aman had volunteered previously for a Junior Anglers Fishing event
and a Christmas Parade of Lights. Last month Aman led six (6) members of his organization as
volunteers, recruiting them, making sure that they had directions to the event, making sure they
arrived on time, assigning them to various volunteer areas and duties within each area, and
making sure that these duties were carried out. He did a great job managing his members in
every aspect of the event. Aman thanked the Board Members as well as Jerry Poteet for the
award and said he enjoys volunteering for our events.
Ill. Beautification Award of the Month
Chairman Owens stated that each year from May through October we do a residential and
business/civic/governmental Yard of the Month award.

Chairman Owens said the September 2011 Residential Beautification Award of the Month goes to
Mr. and Mrs. Cameron Evans at 1011 High Hawk Trail. This yard is beautifully landscaped with
green shrubs along the front exterior of the home. They have also planted a variety of
ornamental grasses, Indian Hawthorne, Crepe Myrtles and Yuccas. This owner takes great pride in
the work that has been done in their yard. Thank you for helping to beautify Euless. Mrs. Evans
thanked the Board Members and said they take great pride in Euless as well as their home.
Chairman Owens said the September 2011 Business/Civic/Governmental Beautification Award of
the Month goes to Woodchase Apartments at 1000 E. Ash Lane. This property is well maintained
and a great attraction to the surrounding businesses as well as to their residents. The property
grounds are green, well manicured and are truly an asset to the community. It is efforts like yours
that make Euless a great place to work and live. Thank you for contributing to the beautification
of our city. Property Manager Carrie Miller thanked the Board and said they are very proud of the
award.
IV. Business of the Tree Board
Tree Board Chairman Carroll Scott reported on the following for August 1St—31St:
• Total man hours-339.00
o 91.00 Horticulture
o 79.00 Forestry
o 66.00 Greenhouse
o 94.00 Special Projects
o 9.00 Training
• There were no trees planted or tree related purchases
V. Adopt-A-Park Program -Application
Chairman Owens said we received an application for the Adopt-A-Park Program to adopt either
McCormick Park or the Preserve at McCormick Park from the Stephens' Family.
Amy Stephens said they would adopt McCormick Park since they live by this park. She said their
family walks the area and decided they would like to do this as a family project.

Alex Horton made the motion to approve the application from the Stephens' Family to adopt
McCormick Park and was seconded by Darrel Knobloch. The vote was unanimous.
Chairman Owens thanked Mrs. Stephens and her family for their participation in the Adopt-A-Park
Program.

Director of Parks and Community Services Ray McDonald reported on the following:

• Water restrictions
• Reclaimed water
• Senior Holiday Luncheon
• 2012 budget

VII. Other New Business
Chairman Owens commented on the vandalism at the pools recently.
VIII. Input from City Council Members and Visitors
Council Member Leon Hogg said the tax rate will remain the same for the new budget year and
they will be adopting the 2011 tax roll at the council meeting tomorrow night.

Chairman Owens gave the benediction. There being no further business to conduct, the meeting
was adjourned at 8:00 p.m.
