plaque project and provided the following recommendations:
• Names can be included on the plaque for gifts of$50 or more.
HPC MTG 061410 Page 1
• Make a plaque, about 16"x12" in size, to display a predetermined rectangular size gold plate
noting "in memory of" names for deceased individuals and "in honor of" names for those
still living.
The Committee briefly discussed the Sub-committee's recommendations. Faye Stinneford made
a motion to accept the recommendations and allow the Sub-committee to acquire the plaque.
Helen Voss seconded the motion, no one opposed, motion approved.
2. Ruth Millican Center Sub-committee: Helen Voss reported that it's a matter of time until the
center can be released to the Committee. Various members expressed concerns about other
groups using the building once it is turned over to the Committee.
3. Display Sub-committee: Mavy Wright and City staff has been working on the project. Mrs.
Wright and Bill Byers will proof the text for the signs one last time before staff can have the
signs permanently set. They will also provide instructions for where to place the signs.
4. Website Sub-committee: Gary Fieldsend gave a presentation about the Committee's Flickr
account. He has invested over one-hundred hours on maintaining the account. The Committee
complimented Mr. Fieldsend and expressed their enthusiastic appreciation for the project.
5. Calloway Cemetery: An old burial site of a young child at Calloway has a very small homemade
marker. Bill Golden reported that relatives of the family recently volunteered to have a larger
marker installed at the grave. Mr. Golden noted that awareness about the cemetery has increased
due to increase publicity about the cemetery through the efforts of the Committee and the Board
of Trustees. Mr. Golden still needs help identifying "lost burials" at Calloway.
6. Historical Marker:
• Local Euless Marker: Betty Fuller will submit an application for the house on south Main.
• Texas State Historical Marker: Weldon Cannon has been in contact with Randy Belcher,
principal of South Euless Elementary School, regarding details for the Euless School marker
dedication. Two dates were approved by Mayor Mary Lib Saleh and Mr. Belcher for the
dedication, October 17 and 24, 2010. After a brief discussion, Weldon Cannon made a
motion to have the dedication on October 24. Helen Voss seconded the motion, motion
approved. Staff can help with the invitations if needed. David Massey is still compiling
names of Euless School alumni's from between 1914 and 1955.
7. Bayless Well: Staff reported that Susan Ellis had asked if Bill Byers and Bill Golden could
schedule a date and time to meet with Mrs. Ellis to assess the work needed in order to restore the
well. Mr. Golden will coordinate a meeting however, he did not have contact with the owners of
the well. Mavy Wright offered to provide Mr. Golden with the contact information.
CHAIRMAN'S REPORT
1. It was reported that Helen Payton, Susan Ellis, Helen Gleghorn and Robert Nail could not attend
today's meeting due to various conflicts.
2. Reported that Sue Stover is home now. Donna Mickan indicated that there wasn't a need for
people to make food anymore. Members expressed their concern and love for the Stover's.
3. Mrs. Fuller and Helen Voss expressed their desire to acquire a plastic display horse for the fly
net.
4. Betty Fuller displayed and discussed an article about Chisholm Trail. Several members including
Donna Mickan and Weldon Cannon indicated that historically the Chisholm Trail never actually

came through Texas. Cattle drives from Mexico and south Texas went through various local
trails which eventually met up on the Chisholm Trail near the Red River around the borders of
Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas. Over the years the trail that went through Texas leading to the
actual Chisholm Trail also became known as the Chisholm Trail. It was mentioned that quite
possibly cattle drives came through near Euless and very likely went through Fort Worth on its
vv-ay to the Chisholm Trail. Mrs. Fuller stated that there used to be a Chisholm Trail marker down
near the bottoms in the area around south Euless and Tarrant but is now gone. Donna Mickan
stated that Loretta Getchell, Deputy City Manager, offered to have Parks make a Chisholm Trail
marker for the Committee to install wherever it wants.
STAFF REPORT
Staff will include a write up in Euless Today asking for help with various projects discussed at
today's meeting, including the plastic horse.
OTHER REPORTS
1. Everyone sang happy birthday to Helen Voss, who requested that she be called "Sweet Helen" in
order to help differentiate between all the Helen's in the Committee.
2. James Gathings discussed a recent Dallas Morning News article about Raymond Saleh and the
medals he received during WWI. He suggested asking the Mayor for permission to allow the
Committee to display the medals at some notable location in honor of Mr. Saleh's services. Mrs.
Fuller also added that Sam Herrington has medals he previously indicated he'd like to donate to
the Committee. Everyone agreed it was a great idea for Mr. Gathings to approach the Mayor for
permission to display the medals. Mr. Gathings will report back to the Committee in September.
3. Donna Mickan indicated that Perry Brockmeyer discussed with her as well as staff the need to
re-chink the Log House. Signs of wear are evident. Staff will look into correcting the problem.
4. Bill Golden donated several South Euless Baptist Church documents from the 1950s. Weldon
Cannon expressed great interest in collecting historical information on Euless churches as the
Committee hardly has any historical data on the subject. Mavy Wright attends the South Euless
Baptist Church and has contact with them; she volunteered to work on the history of the church.
Council Member Leon Hogg added that he was ordained a deacon at the church.
5. Weldon Cannon indicated he has a lot of documents similar to what Mr. Golden donated. He
would like to donate said documents but expressed great concern about the security of storage
provided for the documents.

Mavy Wright made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Bill Golden seconded the motion. Motion
approved.
