2019
Dear Citizens,
As we begin a
new year, my
thoughts turn
once again to
our city’s future
and the great
things that
are on the horizon. I hope you
will join us for the Town Hall
meeting this month. It’s perfect
for learning about upcoming
projects and programs and it’s
a great place to ask questions
or give suggestions. I also
recommend participating in
Coffee With a Cop. This is your
opportunity to let our police
know how much you appreciate
them; plus you can ask questions
or offer suggestions.
Of course, January is also a great
time for resolutions. If fitness is
a resolution of yours, there are
some great opportunities to start
the new year off on the right foot.
The Euless Family Life Center is
offering a Free Fitness Day on
January 26, which will give you
a chance to try out classes, find
instructors that you like and take
a complete tour of the facility. I
hope to see you there!

Did you know...?
Every Monday in January at the Library, take
a trip around the world with a sip of tea and
and learn about the culture it came from.
Midtown Express Project Nears Completion
The massive $850 million, 27.8 mile,
Midtown Express project is nearing
completion. The project, which includes
three roadways (SH 183, SH 114 and
Loop 12), is anticipated to be finished
by the end of 2018.
The project reconstructed portions of
general-purpose lanes and frontage
roads and constructed TEXpress Lanes
on all three roadways. The heart of the
project was improvements to SH 183, which was built in 1959 and has been
relatively unchanged since 1973 when an additional main lane was added
in each direction. One of the biggest challenges facing the team during
construction was keeping traffic flowing through this major corridor. The
project had more than 12,000 lane closures and 173 traffic switches with the
team working 24 hours a day, seven days per week. Much of the work was
phased or performed overnight to minimize effects on peak-time traffic. The
project required rehabilitation of 44 bridges, construction of 26 new bridges
and completion of four direct connect ramps.
The Texas Department of Transportation opened the TEXpress Lanes on SH
114 in the fall of 2017 and recently opened additional TEXpress Lanes on
SH 183 and Loop 12. Drivers can choose to take the main lanes at no cost,
or pay a toll to use the TEXpress Lanes. Until early 2019, pricing will follow
an approved fixed toll rate schedule. After the fixed-rate period, traffic speeds
will be managed through dynamic pricing, so the price will fluctuate based
on congestion in the TEXpress Lane. High occupancy vehicles (HOVs) and
motorcycle drivers with a valid toll tag who register and activate their HOV
status at www.DriveOnTEXpress.com or through a mobile app (Drive On
TEXpress), can receive a 50 percent discount during weekday peak periods.

Euless Family Life
Aquatic Park Parking Lot

Don’t throw away your live Christmas tree - recycle
it! And then join us for the Christmas Tree Recycling

Along with an introduction to vermi-composting

Participants receive a free composting thermometer
at the end of the class, in addition to books and
workshop materials for their personal use. Students

environmental education. The first 30 students

Wanted: Teen Court Volunteers
The H.E.B. Teen Court is looking for adult and teen
volunteers. Volunteering for Teen Court is a fun and
great way to serve your community. Teens and adults
work together to provide defendants the opportunity
to take responsibility for their actions, while learning
about the justice system. Teen volunteers learn
public speaking skills, interviewing techniques and
administrative skills. Local attorneys and the
Teen Court Coordinator combine their time
and talents to provide all teen volunteers with
thorough training.
Teen Court is a peer program that allows juvenile
first offenders with Class C misdemeanors an
alternative in the criminal justice system. Teen
volunteers serve as the attorneys, bailiffs and
clerks, while adult volunteers assist during
court sessions as jury monitors and judges. You
are welcome to visit any Teen Court session to
observe and find out more about our program.
If interested, call the Teen Court office at 817-
952-2468.
