Robin Edwards made a motion to approve the October 4, 2018 regular meeting minutes and
Bien Camungol seconded the motion and all were in favor.
2. Introductions
Judge Murphy, City of Bedford, was present for this meeting.
OLD BUSINESS
3. Discuss the 2019 annual Teen Court Scholarship Gala.
Teen Court Coordinator Mindy Eichorst mentioned that the date of Thursday, April 11, 2019 at Texas
Star Conference Center were both secured and a deposit has been made. She also mentioned that All
For Goooooood has the date and location of the Gala and is willing to assist again. Ms. Eichorst
handed out the sponsorship and reservation form to everyone. She will also hand out a letter for each
of the Advisory Board Members at the January Advisory Board Meeting.
Judge Murphy, City of Bedford, spoke at the meeting about the wanting to present something to each of
the cities that represents HEB Teen Court with maybe the words of “Changing Teens Lives.” He
wanted the Advisory Board Members thoughts or any other ideas. Judge Murphy thought it would be
nice to present it to each of the Mayors but wanted the Advisory Board Members’ thoughts and
suggestions. Judge Murphy mentioned a friend, who donated a painting for the 2018 Teen Court
Scholarship Gala, might be able to paint something. These items could be identical or individual for
each city and could be displayed in the Mayors’ office. Brandon Herrera suggested a 3D ‘H’, ‘E’, ‘B’,
representing each of the cities. Bien Camungol suggested a print that represents the teens.
Councilmember Cathy Thompson suggested seeing if any students at the either of the high schools,
L.D. Bell or Trinity, could make something.
Judge Murphy also mentioned this year is a Legislative Year and he would keep everyone informed on
the juvenile laws if anything pertained to Teen Court.
Brandon Herrera suggested Blake Margolis as a possible speaker at the 2019 Gala. He mentioned he
is 19 years old and was recently elected to the City of Rowlett City Council. Mr. Herrera thought maybe
he would be able to connect with the teens. Renu Sloan then suggested Salman Bhojani, a resident of
Euless, a licensed attorney, and was recently elected to the City of Euless City Council. Ms. Sloan
mentioned she could talk to him, if needed.
4. Discuss and possibly take action about the Scholarship Application form.
Bien Camungol mentioned that somewhere on the application it does need to have a section for
homeschooled teens. Brandon Herrera agreed with what Mr. Camungol said and added that
transcripts and GPA with homeschooled teens can be included. Kathleen Toms mentioned dual credit
classes, International Baccalaureate, and Pre-Advanced Placement classes need to be recognized.
Robin Edwards mentioned he thought a question of “Why should I receive this scholarship?” should be
included within the application. Mr. Herrera then suggested the teens get two letters from either
teachers or places the teens participate in extra-curricular activities. Mr. Camungol added maybe a
question “What have you done to change lives?” could be added to the application.
After much discussion, Renu Sloan made a motion to have this topic tabled to the next meeting and
Kathleen Toms seconded the motion. All were in favor.
NEW BUSINESS
