HomeMy WebLinkAbout2019-03-11HPC MTG 031119 Page 1 of 2 Historical Preservation Committee Minutes March 11, 2019 CALL TO ORDER Chairperson, Suzy McCormick, called the meeting to order at 10:01 a.m. The meeting was held at the Euless City Hall, Euless. She extended a welcome to our new member, Mary Hunt. MEMBERS PRESENT Doris Brown, Al Browning, Joe Cannon, Barbara Collier, Mary Hunt, Norma Lively, Marilyn Long, Don Martin, Anniece McKanna, Suzy McCormick, Helen Payton, Faye Stinneford, and Mavy Wright. STAFF PRESENT Director of Parks and Community Services Ray McDonald and Projects Coordinator Ofa Faiva-Siale. VISITORS PRESENT Mary Williams, friend of Marilyn Long. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Mavy Wright made a motion to approve the minutes. Faye Stinneford seconded the motion. With unanimous support, the minutes were approved. TREASURER’S REPORT The previous balance was $11,327.98 from February 11. There was a deposit of $13.00 from the money jar. The current balance as of March 11, 2019 is $11,340.98. STATUS OF CURRENT PROJECTS 1. Docents and Volunteer Report/Recruitment—Mavy Wright stated there were nineteen visitors and nine docents at the March museum open house. Anniece McKanna mentioned a family from Nepal had visited. 2. Acquisition—no report 3. Facebook—Anniece McKanna thanked Linda Pool for publishing photos on Social Media regarding the Open House. It appeared better attendance may have been the result. 4. Plaque – no report 5. Display Signs—Mavy Wright requested new signs for displayed items, including the TV in the Fuller House. HPC MTG 031119 Page 2 of 2 6. Publicity/Program/Speakers—Mavy Wright stated she is uniting with Grapevine Historical on upcoming programs. She also suggested speakers such as Lance Tahmahkera to them. 7. Historical Albums—Marilyn Long stated her committee is continuing to organize scrapbooks and is working with Ofa Faiva-Siale to validate and document items which were returned to museum inventory from the loan to the Library. 8. Heritage Park—no report 9. Artifact Recovery—no report 10. Historical Tree Program – no report 11. Inventory—Ms. Collier stated she was continuing to work on inventory. The WWI display had been removed because the 100th anniversary was in 2018. The display could be replaced if needed. CHAIRMAN’S REPORT 1. Chairperson McCormick mentioned that she and Mavy Wright attended the groundbreaking of Arlington Heritage Memorial Garden on Friday, February 22 at 11am at 600 Block of W. Arkansas, near Matlock and S. Center. She stated there were excellent speakers and historical discussion; and she displayed a souvenir from the event. 2. Ms. McCormick proposed the Euless Historical Commission participate in the National Night Out program, as is done by the Tarrant County Historical Commission. STAFF REPORT PACS Director Ray McDonald mentioned Frank Ocampo had resigned from the City of Euless for another career opportunity. COMMITTEE REPORT/INPUT 1. There was a brief discussion of items that had been removed by PACS and items needing identification for display. 2. Mary Hunt expressed interest in being a docent and was eager to obtain training. 3. Mavy Wright offered to spend time with Mary on April 13. 4. Faye Stinneford offered tickets for sale to the upcoming Fire Department Steak Dinner on March 23. ADJOURNMENT Motion to adjourn was made by Mavy Wright and seconded by Joe Cannon.
