HomeMy WebLinkAbout1994-11-07 - REGULAR MEETING PARKS AND LEISURE SERVICES BOARD November 7, 1994 CALL TO ORDER The regular meeting of the Parks and Leisure Services Board was called to order at 6:57 p.m. on Monday, November 7, 1994, at the City of Euless Parks Building by Chairman Leon Hogg. Other Board members present were Richard McNeese, Lynne Moffatt, Jerry Robinson, Chuck Behrns, and Eric Owens. Stacey Hollinger and Dr. Stephen O'Brien were absent. Also present were Rick Herold-Community Services Director, Julia Wakeley-Parks and Leisure Services Manager and Phillis Mullin recording secretary. VISITORS Richard Moore, Johnnie and Elaine Green, Dan Dearborn, Terry Boaz, Ricardo Heroldandez, Steve and Pat Wiltshire, John and Ramona Ledbetter, Keith Martin, Peni Sitani, Rick Maldonado, and Joe Lyons. INVOCATION The invocation was given by Lynne Moffatt. INTRODUCTION Mr. Herold Introduced the Parks employees and Park Board members. MINUTES Chairman Hogg entertained a motion on the minutes from the October 10, 1994 Regular meeting. Mr. McNeese motioned to approve the minutes with the following corrections, under Parks And Leisure Services Report change "due to violations and high weeds" to due to the availability of other facilities. Also, It was recorded that Stacey Hollinger and Eric Owens were absent, however, both were present at the Greenhouse presentation. Mr. Robinson seconded the motion; the motioned carried. AWARD PRESENTATION There was no award presentation. GUEST SPEAKERS There was not a guest speaker. OLD BUSINESS I. BOARD MEMBER REPORTS Ms. Moffatt reported that both Wilshire and Westpark Parks looked good. Page two Mr. McNeese expressed that Villages of Bear Creek Park looked good. McCormick needed some general tree work. Also, railing wa loose on the Gazebo. Mr. Hogg reported that the Murder Mystery was a great success. Mr. Owens commented that J A Carr and Kiddie Carr Parks looked good, although ther were a few tree limbs on the sidewalk at Kiddie Carr Park. The slide was under repair at J A Carr Park. Mr. Robinson said that Midway and Blessing Branch Parks looked good. Mr. Behrns reported that Oakwood and Reflection Parks looked good. Johnnie Green updated the Board on playground equipment for Oakwood Terrace and expressed his preferences for Play World, Game Time and Iron Mountain Forge. Iron Mountain Forge is considered the top of the line by corps of engineers. All three have good warranties and are very similar in price. Mr. Green expressed that construction could be completed by February or March. Mr. Hogg would like to see a sign recognizing that the park improvements were made utilizing half penny money. Mr. Herold expressed that from a liability factor it would be best for the manufacturer to install the equipment. Mr. Behrns motioned that the board allow staff to select the brand of equipment, adding a swing set, and contracting the installation. Ms. Moffatt seconded the motion; the motion carried. NEW BUSINESS I. & II. PARKS AND LEISURE SERVICES REPORT Mrs. Wakeley reported on the re-organization of the Leisure Services Department. In addition, Mrs. Wakeley reported the progress of the up-coming Daze of Christmas events and the building usage for the month of October. In addition, Mrs. Wakeley reported on the building usage for October. Mr. Herold discussed an In-line skating rink at Bob Eden Park. Ms. Moffatt moved that the In-line skating rink be located in the middle of the jogging trail at Bob Eden Park per the Parks Department specs. Mr. McNeese seconded the motion; the motion carried. Page three III. BUSINESS OF THE TREE BOARD Mr. McNeese reported that the 1 + 1 = 2 totals are 17,820. Keith Martin in looking into a tree ordinance and will follow up in January. Iv. OTHER NEW BUSINESS Richard Moore updated the board on the Christmas Parade of Light. ADJOURNMENT Chairman Hogg gave the benediction.
