PARKS REPORT
Rick began with compliments toward the staff regarding Arbor Daze. The
festival was wonderful and had a record crowd on Saturday. The revenue
report will be finalized next week but appears a reserve fund will be possible
if we confront a "rainout" festival in the future. Discussion followed about
sponsors who are eager to renew and increase in next year's celebration
support. Improvements were discussed briefly with encouragement of people to
communicate in writing their opinions and suggestions on Arbor Daze 1994.
The announcement was made that Ann Hajek, Marketing/Revenue Coordinator, was
to be May's Employee of the Month.
Rick commented concern on Marty Wiltshire's health.
An announcement was then made that the Statewide Transportation Enhancement
Program was approved by the Texas Highway Commission. This development will
connect McCormick, Bob Eden and Villages of Bear Creek, after pursuing land
acquisition. Rick said this has been on the master plan a long time and is
pleased the concept passed.
II.
LEISURE SERVICES REPORT
Julia reinforced respect for the Parks and Leisure staff, all city employees
and that Arbor Daze was a safe event. The plant sale did well. Discussion
followed on the success of the carnival area, despite complaints of ride
costs, and concern for improving local vendors success. Praise was
acknowledged for Euless Baptist church, who were so workable, with suggestion
of how to monitor their lot on Sunday. Rick and Julia spoke of their pride in
the event and the dedication of the employees.
Music Shop was discussed for June with Dana Cooper performing, and the
exciting news of Lu Mitchell coming in December.
