PARK AND LEISURE SERVICES BOARD
April 4, 1994
CALL TO ORDER
The regular meeting of the Parks and Leisure Services Board was called to
order at 7:02 p.m. on Monday, April 4, 1994, in the Council Chambers of the
Euless Municipal building by Chairman Leon Hogg. Other members present were
Messrs. Eric Owens, Jerry Robinson, Stephen O'Brien, Mrs. Lynne Moffatt, and
Chuck Behrns and Stacey Hollinger, alternates. Richard McNeese and Julia
Wakeley were absent.
Also present were Rick Herold-Community Services Director and Beverly Walter-
Recording Secretary.
VISITORS
Visitors included Councilman Charlie Miller and Tom Cox, Economic Development
Director.
INVOCATION
The invocation was given by Stacey Hollinger.
MINUTES
Leon entertained a motion of the minutes. Lynne motioned to approve the
minutes of March 7, 1994, which was seconded by Stephen, and unanimously
passed.
AWARD PRESENTATION
There was no award presentation.
GUEST SPEAKERS
There was not a guest speaker.
OLD BUSINESS

BOARD MEMBER REPORTS
Leon released new park assignments as follows:
Eric Owens J A Carr & Kiddie Carr Parks
Lynne Moffatt Wilshire & Westpark Parks
Richard McNeese McCormick & Villages of Bear Creek Parks
Jerry Robinson Midway & Blessing Branch Parks
Leon Hogg Special Events
Stephen O'Brien Ruth Millican & South Euless Parks
Charles Behrns Oakwood & Van Riet Parks
Stacey Hollinger Bob Eden & Lakewood Parks
Stephen commented Bob Eden looked good with a discussion on channelling the
waterway. Lakewood was busy with soccer.
Lynne said McCormick and Villages of Bear Creek looked great. Mc Cormick was
not very busy but Villages made up for it.
Chuck was unable to see Blessing Branch, however, Midway was fine and
complimented the paved entrance off Main Street.
Carr and Oakwood Terrace were clean and being used for picnics according to
Jerry. Rick commented some wires hanging were due to the roofing of the
Simmons Center.
Eric was unable to get by Wilshire and West Park.
NEW BUSINESS
I.
PARKS REPORT
Rick informed the board members that Thursday, August 18th, is Euless Night at
The Ball Park in Arlington. The cost is $4.00 per ticket and can be purchased
through Ann at 685-1661.
Boy's and Girl's softball gets underway on Saturday, April 9th.
A discussion followed regarding Arbor Daze being bigger than ever with a sell
out on booths. There will be 1,500 trees given away daily. Rick thanked Tom
Cox for his help with sponsors.
The board also spoke on the State Arbor Day celebration on Friday, April 22nd.
Leon and Mayor Mary Lib Saleh will be travelling to Nebraska to be presented
the National Arbor Day award for 1993.
Rick announced an Urban Forester will come on staff from Texas A & M
University. His responsibility will be street tree trimming and inventory.
Also, Rick commented that part time people are being hired for Parks to help
maintain the grounds.
A letter and coaches evaluation sheet regarding umpires are being distributed
at softball games. A suggestion that perhaps even if A.S.A. certified,
umpires have some City of Euless training.
Rick spoke on behalf of Julia on Leisure Services. "Godspell" had a good
showing the second week of performance and had a great cast.
Peter Krause, Program Coordinator, had the city Easter Egg Hunt which was
completely funded by the Lions Club. Leon Hogg, Jo Svochak and Joe Jordan
were representatives.
The kids had fun at the Trinity "J" Day, according to Rick, on Saturday.
The Music Shop on Saturday, April 9th, will feature Bill Mitchell, Tim Keller
and the Blarney Brothers. Tickets are $6.00.

LEISURE SERVICES REPORT
Julia was out of town so Rick's report included her information.

BUSINESS OF THE TREE BOARD
Richard McNeese was not present to report.
IV.
INPUT FROM CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS
Councilman Miller discussed a "win-win" situation on a possible indoor/outdoor
hockey arena.
ADJOURNMENT
Leon Hogg gave the closing prayer.
There being no further business to conduct, the meeting adjourned at 7:43p.m.
