HomeMy WebLinkAbout1994-02-07 REGULAR MEETING PARK AND LEISURE SERVICES BOARD February 7, 1994 CALL TO ORDER The regular meeting of the Parks and Leisure Services Board was called to order at 7:04 p.m. on Monday, February 7, 1994, in the Council Chambers of the Euless Municipal building by Chairman Leon Hogg. Other members present were Messrs. Eric Owens, Jerry Robinson, Richard McNeese, Mrs. Lynne Moffatt, and Chuck Behrns and Stacey Hollinger, alternates. Stephen O'Brien was absent. Also present were Rick Herold-Community Services Director, Julia Wakeley-Parks and Leisure Services Manager and Beverly Walter- Recording Secretary. VISITORS Visitors included Edward Denari and Clyde Sebastian. INVOCATION The invocation was given by Jerry Robinson. KNOW Leon Hogg entertained a motion to approve the minutes of January 3, 1994 with the following corrections to the Call to Order: 1994 and Mrs. Lynne Moffatt. AWARD PRESENTATION There was no award presentation. GUEST SPEAKERS There was no guest speaker. OLD BUSINESS I. BOARD MEMBER REPORTS Chuck commented Blessing Branch was in good condition and that Midway's paving has been completed. The slide was discussed. Eric was unable to view Wilshire and West Park, but Rick said the trees were trimmed and the parks were useable. Jerry saw no problems at Oakwood Terrace and the fence at Carr has been completed. McCormick and Villages of Bear Creek looked perfect, Lynne commented. Richard, Special Events, spoke on Channel 8 Family Night and the two Town Meetings. The turn out for the S. Euless meeting was well represented. Leon informed Stacey he will be given parks soon. NEW BUSINESS PARKS REPORT Rick began with an update on Jerry Crane. Next, top soil for Bob Eden, West Park and Midway ballfields was discussed. ALLWAYS grant was commented upon. The Texas Forest Service Grant enables an arborist to come on board, and we are seeking applicants. The Arbor Daze sponsorships for $250 are doing well , and Rick said we had interest from TCI cable and two Ford dealerships. Leon suggested each board member try to get a sponsor. Notation was made of the State Arbor Day Reception on April 22nd in Building A at 10:00 a.m. prior to the State Celebration. An enjoyable commentation followed on the new baseball field in Arlington with fantastic youth group facilities and a learning center for children. "- LEISURE SERVICES REPORT Julia also commented on the excellent turn out on the Channel 8 meetings and success with sponsors. She informed the board that the Midway racquetball floor will be redone. The Music Shop went well with Allen Damron in January and "overflowed" with the Austin Loung Lizards performance this month. The seniors attended the Stock Show recently, and the Euless Youth Advisory Council had a Super Bowl party. The youth want to do an Olympics for the Junior Highs. Starlight Theatre will be doing "Godspell" March 18-20th and 25- 27th with a preview at the Appreciation Celebration on February 18th. III. BUSINESS OF THE TREE BOARD Richard acknowledged Euless received, for the 8th year, Tree City USA designation. We also are reaching our goal to be recertified. At Arbor Daze, saplings will be distributed at the same location. The next work session was set for Thursday, February 17th at 7:00 p.m. at the Midway Recreation Center. IV. INPUT FROM CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS No council members were present. V. INPUT FROM VISITORS Edward Denari spoke, as a citizen and Euless Economic Development Corporation member, on how important the city's work is to help build character and provide opportunities for youth and adults. Clyde Sebastain commented on the need for lighted practice areas for soccer participants which will be discussed at the work session. ADJOURNMENT Leon Hogg gave the closing prayer.
