PARK AND LEISURE SERVICES BOARD
DECEMBER 6, 1993
CALL TO ORDER
The regular meeting of the Parks and Leisure Services Board was called to
order at 7:01p.m. on Monday, December 6, 1993, in the Council Chambers of the
Euless Municipal building by Chairman Leon Hogg. Other members present were
Messrs. Eric Owens, Jerry Robinson, Richard McNeese, Lynne Moffatt, Stephen
O'Brien, and Chuck Behrn, alternate.
Also present were Rick Herold-Community Services Director, Julia Wakeley-Parks
and Leisure Services Manager and Beverly Walter-Recording Secretary.
YISITORS
Visitors included Mike Daniel, Euless Athletic Association.
INVOCATION
The invocation was given by Stephen O'Brien.
MINUTES
Leon Hogg entertained a motion to approve the minutes of November 1, 1993 with
the following corrections: Meeting was November 1st instead of November 3rd,
Called to Order-Rick Herald's name was incorrect, New Business-III
"unanimously" was spelled incorrectly, and VI-Input from Visitors had "but".
mispelled.
AWARD PRESENTATION
There were no award presentations.
GUEST SPEAKERS
There was not a guest speaker.
OLD BUSINESS
I.
BOARD MEMBER REPORTS
Chuck Behrns reported Blessing Ranch and Midway Parks looked well with the
construction we were able to do due to federal funding.
Eric Owens commented on West Park's green areas of the ball field and the
"wash" looked better. Wilshire's drainage appeared better due to
construction.

Jerry Robinson checked out Oakwood Terrace and Kittie Carr. He greatly
appreciated the gazebo being fixed up.
Lynne Moffatt expressed how nice both Village of Bear Creek and, especially,
McCormick appeared.
Richard McNeese, Special Events, heard how nice the Thanksgiving function was
and left further comments for Julia's report.
Stephen O'Brien was unable to see Bob Eden and the "No golfing" sign was
missing again from Lakewood.
II.
DISCUSS PRIORITY ON PARK PLAN
Leon Hogg briefed the board on Phases I, II and III.
Jerry inquired as to the number of months for Phase I and II with Leon hoping
for funding by 1995. Phase III would be further down the line.
There was a discussion over the quality of reconstruction on South Euless
Park.
NEW BUSINESS
I.
PARKS REPORT
Rick began with commenting that Euless has won the National Arbor Daze award
and how excited they are to attend the awards ceremony on April 29, 1994 in
Nebraska City, Nebraska.
Tom Cox was thanked for funding the Trinity flags by Rick.
Midway's field needs reseeding which will occur in a couple of months due to
germination.
Rick said the tree recycling will be at Midway Park on January 8th.
LynnCand Alley Moffatt were then thanked for setting up Music Shop. The next
one will be January 8th with Jan Hogg helping with desserts.
Rick announced Jerry Poteet was selected as Employee of the Month and was
nominated from another department. Leon reminded others internal people vote
on the employee.
In conclusion, members were told Jerry Crane retires on Friday, January 14th
with a roast at lunch.
II.
LEISURE SERVICES REPORT
Julia began with thanking North Main for donating barbecue for the Senior
Thanksgiving luncheon.
Music Shop has a good following, and Julia thanked Jan Hogg's continuing help
cooking desserts. Members were encouraged to experience Music Shop.
The dinner theatre function, Country Christmas, is challenging but should be
delightful . It plays December 10, 11, 17, and- 18th and was written by Euless
resident Ken Nelson. Julia mentioned the need for volunteers.
Julia encouraged anyone to come to the Senior Christmas luncheon on Thursday,
December 9th at Simmons.
The employee luncheon will be on Thursday, December 16th at Midway Rec Center.
The Christmas Tree Lighting went well and Julia commented on the excellent
drum corps of Trinity. The high school group sold spiced cake and apple
cider. Several local talent groups participated, including Mr. and Mrs. Santa
Claus and their antique car. Leon and Rick suggested they receive the -
Volunteer of the Month award. Steven O'Brien motioned, and Eric Owens
seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.
Julia concluded by expressing her and Rick's deep appreciation of the Park
Board.
III.
BUSINESS OF THE TREE BOARD
Richard recapped on the November discussion and appreciated Rick's help with
over 11,641 trees planted to date. This is our 8th year to recertify. Leon
suggested plans to leave April 28th for the awards in Nebraska on Arbor Daze
1993.
At the February work session, a fabricated sign will be discussed showing
total of trees planted.
When inquiring about who trims trees in the City, Rick said it was funded
through a different department than Parks.
ADJOIAtNI ENT
Leon Hogg informed the Board that there will be a work session on Monday,
January 10th and one in February. He concluded with the January 3rd meeting
of the Board will be elections.
There being no further business to conduct, the meeting adjourned at 8:32 p.m.
with a closing prayer by Chairman Hogg.
