PARK AID LEISURE SERVICES BOARD
JANUARY 04, 1993
CALL TO ORDER
The regular meeting of the Park and Leisure Services Board was called to order
at 7:00 PM, Monday, January 04, 1993, in the Council Chambers of the Euless
Municipal Building by Chairman Hogg. Other members present were Mrs. Lynne
Moffatt, Messrs. Charlie Miller, Richard McNeese, Jerry Robinson, Eric Owens,
and Chuck Behrns.
Also present were Rick Herold, Community Services Director; Julia Wakeley,
Parks and Leisure Services Manager; and Ann Hajek, Recording Secretary .
VISITORS
Visitors included Modesto Mundo, Mike Daniel, Billy Owens, and Mrs. Eric
Owens.

The minutes of the meeting dated December 07, 1992, were approved as written .
OLD BUSIIESS
I.
BOARD BERBERS REPORTS
Richard McNeese apologized for missing the last meeting. He said he is
impressed with the dirt work on Midway Field #3 .
Charlie Miller said that his areas are Villages of Bear Creek Park and
McCormick. The both look fine . He asked about the work on the sewer lines at
Villages of Bear Creek park. Rick said the work was coming along fine
although this time of year the weather can hamper you.
Jerry Robinson said that his areas are Lakewood and Bob Eden park. Lakewood
gets a lot of use. Bob Eden Park looks great.
Eric Owens said that his parks, South Euless and Ruth Millican Center, look
fine.
Leon Hogg did not have a report.
II.
DISCUSSIOI OF OLD IROI BRIDGE
Julia said this event would probably take place in May, after Arbor Daze. She
said it would be nice to get the Historical Preservation Committee involved on
this project. Leon said he has a lot of information on the bridge if it would
help the Historical Preservation Committee. Rick said he also had some
documents. Jerry Robinson asked about putting together a brochure on the
bridge for the children who participate.

OTTER BUSIIESS
Charlie asked if anything had been done about contacting the Resolution Trust
Corporation on land acquisition. Rick said he would have a report on it next
month.
NEW BUSIIESS
I.
PARRS REPORT
Rick reported that educational information was published in the Leisure Times
on the 1/2-penny sales tax election. Information is also being given out on
an educational basis at the Recreation Center and the Library. There was also
a mailout to the Recreation Center members. Rick said that Charlie Miller has
talked to the Euless Athletic Association Board. Rick introduced Modesto
Mundo who has worked diligently on the education and marketing for this
project. Rick also commended Julia Wakeley and Peter Krause on the
information in the Leisure Times. Modesto said that information will be sent
out to Library users and Recreation Center members who are also registered
voters.
Rick said that the city has been holding Sponsorship Lunches for potential
Arbor Daze sponsors. These have been going well .
Rick said that erosion at Villages of Bear Creek caused some threat to two
sewer lines. Emergency orders were passed to fix these lines. Work is
currently being conducted on the first one.
Rick said that the Parks Department won the city Christmas Tree Decorating
contest.
II.
LEISURE SERVICES REPORT
Building use for the month of December was as follows: Midway Recreation
Center meeting rooms: sports associations, 4; city, 4; rentals, 2; gym, 6.
Ruth Millican Center: sr. dances, 4 ; rental, 3; bridge, 10; writers, 5; city,
2 . Simmons Center: rental, 5.
Recreation units for the month of December were as follows: racquetball, 299;
gym, 2,802; track, 542; game & snack, 592; weightroom, 483; Simmons, 1,069;
RMC, 1,345.
Julia Wakeley said that sponsorship for Arbor Daze is coming along well.
The Spring brochure arrived on resident's doorsteps on December 28 and 29.
Registration began today and runs through the 9th for classes beginning
January 11.
Holidaze in the Park had approximately 250 participants. This program is quite
similar to Midway Morning Madness. It ran during the school holiday .
Sixty Calls From Santa were made to area youngsters this year.
The Raiders, a Euless Flag Football team won the T.A.A.F. State Tournament in
Abilene.
Registration continues until January 8 for winter flag football and until
January 21 for volleyball.
The 2nd Annual Midway Recreation Center Racquetball Classic will be held
January 15 and 16 . Registration for the tournament will continue until
January 6.
Leon complemented the Leisure Times . Modesto said they had gotten a lot of
response on the 1/2-penny sales tax from the Leisure Times.
III.
TREE BOARD REPORT
Richard said that applications were made for Tree City U.S.A. and the Growth
Award. Total expenses for the year totaled $90,283. Richard thanked Rick for
staff help. Leon asked the board to request of the Tree Agent to remove dead
trees at Main and Midway. Richard made this request of Rick. Rick said he
would be glad to look into it.

INPUT FROM CITY COUNCIL NENBERS
None.
V.
INPUT FROM VISITORS
Billy Owens said he remembered when Leisure Times was one page. He said it
certainly has come along way. He asked if we had changed the distribution
method. Julia said that we had gone to door-to-door distribution rather than
using the Postal Service.
VI.
ELECTION OF OFFICERS
Election of officers for 1993 were held. The officers are as follows:
Park and Leisure Services Board
Chairman Leon Hogg
Vice Chairman Richard McNeese
Secretary Jerry Robinson made a motion to elect Eric Owens . The
motion passed unanimously.

Chairman Richard McNeese
Vice Chairman Charlie Miller

There being no further business to conduct, the meeting adjourned at 7:57 PM
with a closing prayer by Chairman Hogg.
