HomeMy WebLinkAbout2019-04-08HPC MTG 040819 Page 1 of 2 Historical Preservation Committee Minutes April 8, 2019 CALL TO ORDER Chairperson, Suzy McCormick, called the meeting to order at 10:00 a.m. at the Euless City Hall, Euless. She extended a welcome to the members and to Mayor Linda Martin. MEMBERS PRESENT Bill Byers, Joe Cannon, Mary Hunt, Norma Lively, Marilyn Long, Don Martin, Anniece McKanna, Suzy McCormick, Gary Parker, Helen Payton, Linda Pool, Faye Stinneford, Peggy Vandiver, Helen Voss, Andy Weinzapfel, and Mavy Wright. STAFF PRESENT Director of Parks and Community Services Ray McDonald and Projects Coordinator Ofa Faiva-Siale. VISITORS PRESENT None APPROVAL OF MINUTES Don Martin made a motion to approve the minutes. Mary Hunt seconded the motion. With unanimous support, the minutes were approved. TREASURER’S REPORT The previous balance was $11,340.98 from March 11. There was a deposit of $15.00 from the money jar and an expense of $55.67 for picture frames. The balance as of April 8, 2019 is $11,300.31. STATUS OF CURRENT PROJECTS 1. Docents and Volunteer Report/Recruitment—Linda Pool added she was circulating docent signup sheets for April and May. She also encouraged as many docents as possible to volunteer because of the anticipated volume of visitors due to the Plant Swap which will be held simultaneously during both monthly open houses. Mavy Wright stated there was a museum tour of a group of 11 local day care children on March 12. 2. Acquisition—Bill Byers stated there were no additional items. 3. Facebook— Linda Pool stated she was continuing to use social media to announce events at the museum and was adding photos to the posts to arouse interest. 4. Plaque – Faye Stinneford indicated there had been no requests for plaques. 5. Display Signs—Mavy Wright commented that signs are prepared as needed. HPC MTG 040819 Page 2 of 2 6. Publicity/Program/Speakers—Mavy Wright announced there will be a tour of the Euless Police Department following the next meeting on May 13. She mentioned the opportunity for members to safely drop off unwanted medications and to remove labels from bottles. Intra-venous solutions, injectable, and syringes are not accepted due to potential hazard posed by blood borne pathogens. 7. Historical Albums—Marilyn Long stated her committee is continuing to focus on scrapbooks. She further indicated the committee would not meet on April 17 due to observation of Holy Week. 8. Heritage Park—Gary Parker stated he had nothing to report. 9. Artifact Recovery—Gary Weinzapfel advised that Saint John Missionary Baptist Church in Mosier Valley has approved the donation of three artifacts, including a Metropolitan Transit Authority token, discovered on their church property. 10. Historical Tree Program – Gary Weinzapfel is coordinating efforts with Parks employee, Randy Leach, to acquire cuttings from one of the city’s oldest oak trees near Highway 183 and Ector Drive. 11. Inventory—no report. CHAIRMAN’S REPORT 1. Chairperson McCormick mentioned there were tote boxes of holiday decorations in the museum kitchen and encouraged their owners to remove them as soon as possible as the items are not needed. 2. Ms. McCormick reminded members to attend Arbor Daze on Saturday, April 27. STAFF REPORT PACS Director Ray McDonald had nothing to report. COMMITTEE REPORT/INPUT Don Martin inquired as to speakers for upcoming Commission meetings. Mavy Wright responded that the May meeting will be the Police Department tour. She also stated there would be no meetings in July or August; however, she has a program scheduled for early Fall. ADJOURNMENT There being no additional comments or input, a motion to adjourn was made by Marilyn Long and seconded by Andy Weinzapfel.
