Regular Meeting
Parks and Recreation Board
August 11, 1980
CALL TO ORDER
The regular meeting of the Parks
and Recreation Board was called to order at 7 :10 P.M. in the Council
Chambers of Euless City Hall by Chairman Don Calhoun. Other members
present were Mrs .- Sherry Kachel, and Messrs . Bobby Baker, and Jay
Heilman. (Absent were Mrs . Zella Stierwalt and Mr. Billy Owens . )
Also present were Parks and
Recreation Director Larry Morgan, and Recording Secretary Ophleia
Smith.

The invocation was given by Chairman
Don Calhoun.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES
The minutes of the regular meeting
dated July 14, 1980, were approved as written.
I.
PARKS AND RECREATION
DIRECTOR'S REPORT-
-Recreation
Mr. .Morgan stated that the summer
recreation programs have been completed with no serious accidents, and
the Recreation Department is now working on the fall program.
Mini courses were arranged for those
people who wished to continue class throughout the summer, such as,
Aerobics, Ladies Exercise, and Western Dance. The cost for these courses
was approximately one-half of regular session.
August 30th has been set as closing
date for the swimming pools .

We are co-sponsoring a Gun Safety
Course with Texas Parks and Wildlife. Response has been good.
Athletics
Mr. Morgan stated that our summer
track program produced four state champions, and one person won national
championship at Dayton, Ohio.

The Euless Swim Team competed in
eight meets, and won several first place ribbons . They won a second
place, three third places, and several fifth places at the Regional
Swim Meet. There were 1,200 young people who participated in the
Regional Swim Meet.
Men's Open Softball Team placed
second and third in Regional Play, and one team competed in the
State Meet.
Women's Recreational Softball Team
placed first and second in Regional Play, and both teams competed in
State Meet.
Jr. Girls Ball Team won in Regional
Play, a.-id placed second in State Tournament.
Minor Girls Ball Team went through
the entire season undefeated.
Parks
The restrooms and pavilion have been
completed at Little Bear Creek Park. Clearing of the park area is
progressing in conjunction with pouring cement for the trail. Approx-
imately three-fourths of the Hike and Bike Trail is complete.
The extreme heat and lack of moisture
have taken their toll on parks without irrigation. We have lost several
trees and some turf areas . It has been difficult to keep things alive
with almost constant watering where we have irrigation.
Vaughan & Accociates, Dallas, Texas,
is drawing up two proposals for building, a guard rail in the bend of
the creek.
Opening of Little Bear Creek Park
will depend on contractor completing installation of sewer, and Texas
Highway Department finishing work at the west entrance.

DISCUSSION
New Business
Mr. Jay Heilman submitted a cost
breakdown sheet of some activities of one area in Chicago, Illinois,
to compare with Euless recreation charges .

Mr. Bobby Baker requested a copy of
the budget for 1980-81.
