PARK AND RECREATION COORDINATOR' S REPORT
Parks
Mr. Morgan stated the seven workout
stations on the jogging trail at Carr Park have been completed. A
representative of the Star-Telegram will be in the city to write a story
on the jogging trail and we hope to receive good coverage. We are planning
to take a survey to find out how many people are using the trail , what
their motives are, and how many are from Euless.
Mr. Morgan stated work on the barn and
shop at Midway Park has been completed. An area has been provided for the
(Paqe Two, Regular Meeting, Park and Recreation Board, December 11 , 1978)
men to have coffee and they have lockers. The main area of the shop is
being used for woodworking. The large planter box in the entrance of City
Hall was made there.
Mr. Morgan stated preliminary work is
being done at Bear Creek Park and fence material has been purchased. A
bulldozer will clear the area and the trail will be remarked. A digging
machine has been contracted to dig thirty-five trees which have been marked.
These trees will be transplanted at City Hall on the Spur 350 side and in
some of the parks. He stated the City of Irving has a tree digging machine
and he is working on a deal with the Irving Park Superintendent to use their
machine and their operator and get more trees. These trees will be divided
with the City of Irving and there will be no cost.
Mr. Morgan stated they are doing regular
maintenance in other parks. There has been some vandalism but it is being
repaired.
Recreation
Mr. Morgan stated in recreation, most
of the attention is being directed to the teen age population. A table
tennis tournament is scheduled in December in the Community Building. The
Duncan Yo Yo Company called and inquired if we would be interested in
sponsoring a yo yo tournament. All expenses will be paid by the company in
return for the use of the Community Building. There will be a lot of
publicity on the tournament and it is expected to draw a large crowd.
Mr. Morgan stated they are in the process
of selecting tables and chairs for the foyer of the Community Building, where
people who do_not-participate in activities can sit and watch. Also, there
will be a roped off area, where people can eat and drink.
Athletics
Mr. Morgan stated the TAAF regional flag
football tournament was held in Euless recently with eight teams involved.
Officials of the state tournament, which is to be held in Dallas, were very
impressed with the Euless tournament and have asked Skip Keller to be on the
state tournament committee.
Mr. Morgan stated in basketball there
are four women' s teams and twelve men' s teams in recreational leagues; six
teams in open leagues. He stated the women' s tennis league is coming to a
close and will have a playoff with teams from the HEB area. Euless will
host the tournament and a trophy will be given.

COMMENTS
