Parks and Recreation Board
January 9, 1978
CALL TO ORDER
The regular meeting of the Parks
and Recreation Board was called to order by Chairman Jay Theder at
7 :35 p .m. in the conference room of the Euless City Hall. Members
present were Messrs. Jay Theder, David Williams and Don Calhoun.
(Absent were Mrs . Zella Stierwalt and Mrs. Jolly Rawlings) .
Also in attendance were Recreation
Director Frank Lindsey and Parks Superintendent Larry Morgan and recording
secretary Darlene Byas.
VISTORS
The vistors in attendance were
Mrs. Willie Mae Mc Cormick, Mr. Herschel Lindley, Councilman Glenn
Walker and Councilman Charles Hunt.
INVOCATION
The invocation was given by Mr.
Lindsey.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
For lack of quorum the minutes of
the previous meeting could not be approved.
RECREATION DIRECTOR'S REPORT
Mr. Lindsey passed out the
attached outline.
PARKS DIRECTOR'S REPORT
Mr. Morgan passed out the attached
outline. It was recommended by Mr. Theder that Mr. Morgan have the City
-- Engineer inspect Midway Park and submit a cost estimate for a drainage ditch
coverage between ball field #3 and #4.
BEAR CREEK PROJECT REPORT.
Mr. Herschel Lindley of Schrickle, Rollins
and Associates gave a presentation of Bear Creek Project . It consisted of
the following items :
A. FINANCES
1. Total $362,499.00
a. Utilities : water, sewer, power- $21,000.
b. Parking lots, drive-way, roadway system- $30,000.
c. Buildings- $50,000.
d. Recreational facilities- $157,000.
e. Miscellaneous- $45,000.
B. ACREAGE

C. PHYSICAL FEATURES OF PHASE I ,
1. Immediate acreage off Trailwood would become a passive
park similiar to Carr Park with one-half mile sawdust
jogging trail, play-ground equipment, picnic facilities
and parking for 10 cars.
2. Extreme eastern end bordering Highway 157 would consist
of a lighted adult softball and soccer combination with
pavillion, and four tennis courts that would be the first
stage toward a tennis cneter to be completed in Phase 2.
This would consist of nine additional tennis courts . There
would also be parking space for 75 cars, restroom facilities
and the bleachers would accomodate 200 spectators.
3. The east and west parts would connect with an 8 ft. wide
bicycle accessway that can be used for bicycles and a walk
way. It would also serve as a means to maintain facilities .
D. PHYSICAL FEATURES PHASE II
1. - 9 Tennis Courts
2. Pro Shop
3. 8 Handball Courts
4. Additional parking space
5. Combination athletic facilities to include soccer and
football.
6. Adult softball field
Suggestions were offered by various
members present :
1. Press Box.
2. Storage for small park maintenance tools.
3. Additional restroom space
4. Saw dust trail and bicycle trail be seperate.
A lenghty discussion followed on all
the above items.
Mr. Jay Theder called a meeting for
Monday, January 16, 1978 at 7:30 p.m. at Euless City Hall to further
discuss these points in more depth and study the existing proposal.

The meeting adjourned at 10:30 P.M.
