HomeMy WebLinkAbout2019-05-13Historical Preservation Committee Minutes May 13, 2019 CALL TO ORDER Chairperson Suzy McCormick called the meeting to order at 10900 a.m. at the Euless City Hall, Euless. She extended a welcome to the members and mentioned our meeting would be brief because we would be taking a tour of the Euless Police Station. MEMBERS PRESENT Doris Brown, Joe Cannon, Weldon Cannon, Mary Hunt, Norma Lively, Marilyn Long, Don Martin, Anniece McKanna, Suzy McCormick, Gary Parker, Helen Payton, Linda Pool, Faye Stinneford, Peggy Vandiver, Helen Voss, Andy Weinzapfel, and Mavy Wright. STAFF PRESENT Director of Parks and Community Services Ray McDonald and Projects Coordinator Ofa Faiva-Siale. VISITORS PRESENT None APPROVAL OF MINUTES Doris Brown noted an error made regarding the name on Items #9 and 10 of April's minutes. Minutes should have read Andy Weinzapfel, not Gary Weinzapfel. Gary Parker made a motion to approve the minutes, with Don Martin making a second. With unanimous support, the corrected minutes were approved. TREASURER'S REPORT The April balance was $11,300.31. There was a deposit of $13.00 from the money jar which resulted in an ending balance on May 13, 2019 of $11,313.31. STATUS OF CURRENT PROJECTS 1. Docents and Volunteer Report/Recruitment—Linda Pool advised she was circulating docent signup sheets for upcoming months. She stated the attendance at the April open house was 17 guests and 8 docents. The attendance at the May open house was 10 guests and 10 docents. The Plant Swap was also well attended. She thanked everyone for their docent participation and would send signup reminders prior to the open houses. 2. Acquisition -nothing to report. 3. Facebook—Linda Pool mentioned a Facebook post from "I Grew Up In Euless" where the photo of the early firefighters were identified. She recommended the members search out other Euless Facebook pages to discover interesting stories. There was also a post related to the Whitener home and Mr. Whitener. Helen Voss mentioned the UTA Library has large volumes of HPC MTG 051319 Page 1 of 2 historical data of our area. Weldon Cannon recommended taking a tour of the UTA Library. He further indicated he had a file on the Amon Carter Field and is working on applying for an historical marker. Chairperson McCormick mentioned there is also an excellent museum in the oId Tarrant County Courthouse, 4. Plaque - Mavy Wright recommended that Faye Stinneford update the plaque at the museum to show term date of the previous HPC President. 5. Display Signs —nothing to report from Mavy Wright. 6. Publicity/Program/Speakers—Mavy Wright stated she had a speaker arranged for an upcoming meeting. She also suggested presenting a restaurant gift card to a speaker. Chairperson McCormick entertained a motion to purchase the restaurant gift card as suggested by Ms. Wright. Faye Stinneford made the motion which was seconded by Helen Voss. The motion carried unanimously. 7. Historical Albums —nothing to report from Marilyn Long. 8. Heritage Park —nothing to report from Gary Parker. 9. Artifact Recovery —Andy Weinzapfel advised there was a possible pony express near the museum for which he might do metal detecting. He also mentioned the possibility of a donation of a covered wagon. This would require someone from the committee to investigate before accepting it. 10. Historical Tree Program - Andy Weinzapfel had nothing new to report. 11. Inventory —no report. CHAIRMAN'S REPORT Chairperson McCormick reminded everyone there would be a bus available after the meeting to transport the members to the Police Department tour. People could carpool, too. STAFF REPORT PACS Director Ray McDonald was absent as he was coordinating the tour bus. COMMITTEE REPORT/INPUT Norma Lively provided a health update on Mary Lib Saleh. Andy Weinzapfel acknowledged the extensive research done by Weldon Cannon; the Commission members agreed wholeheartedly. ADJOURNMENT There being no additional comments or input, a motion to adjourn was made by Faye Stinneford and seconded by Linda Pool.
