HomeMy WebLinkAbout2019-05-02 EULESS PUBLIC LIBRARY MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING OF THE LIBRARY BOARD THURSDAY,MAY 2, 2019 ITEM NO. 1 CALLED TO ORDER A regular meeting of the Euless Public Library Board was called to order by Chairman Snitz at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 2, 2019, in the Board Room of the Library, 1100 Westpark Way. Those present included Chairman Barney Snitz, Vice Chairman Allan Gibbs, Board Members Mike McGehee,Jim Hamilton and Chris McAllister. Board Member Leslie Kane was not present. STAFF MEMBERS PRESENT Sherry Knight, Library Administrator Kelsea Ciavaglia, Librarian VISITORS LuAnn Portugal,Euless, Texas. ITEM NO. 2 APPROVED LIBRARY BOARD MINUTES Chairman Snitz asked for a motion to accept the minutes of the regular meeting held April 4,2019. The motion was made by Board Member McAllister and seconded by Vice Chairman Gibbs. ITEM NO.3 WELCOMED VISITORS Chairman Snitz welcomed all visitors that were present. ITEM NO. 4 PRESENTED LIBRARY ADMINISTRATOR'S REPORT ❖ New Employee Introduction-Kelsea Ciavaglia Library Director Sherry Knight introduced Kelsea Ciavaglia, the new Technology Services Librarian. Ms. Ciavaglia gave an overview of her background and the board introduced themselves. ❖ HEB Reads! Update Ms. Knight gave an overview of the upcoming HEB Reads! Kickoff and the upcoming summer reading challenge collaboration with Hurst Public Library, Bedford Public Library, and the HEB School District. Ms. Ciavaglia gave a demonstration of the HEB Reads! website and the ReadSquared app. Library Board Minutes,May 2,2019,Page I of 3 Library Board Minutes,May 2,2019,Page 2 of 3 Ms. Knight also mentioned that the library would be collaborating with the Euless Parks and Recreation Summer Camps to bring those attendants to the events that will happen every Monday at the Euless Family Life Senior Center. Additionally, Ms. Knight discussed the Lunch and Learn that Euless Public Library will be covering every Wednesday. Board member McAllister inquired about the location and timing of the program. Ms. Knight stated that the location was run by 6 Stones who allowed HEB Reads! to use the location during the summer weekdays from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Those wanting to volunteer should let Ms. Knight know so that volunteer slots were not double booked. ❖ Construction Update Ms. Knight gave an update on the progress of the construction of the library and showed the board drone footage of the current construction progress. Ms. Knight stated that construction was still currently on track for a Spring 2020 reopening and that we will not be rushing the move-in process. Board Member Gibbs inquired about the bubble wall and Ms. Knight stated that the bubble wall installation will go ahead as planned. Board Member Gibbs also inquired about old ELF books. Ms. Knight stated that ELF had sent most of the books that were in storage to Better World Books and ELF members are still taking old books to Half Price Books for a good return. ❖ Classes &Events Update Ms. Knight gave an overview of past and present classes and events including "Arbor Daze,"the "HEB Reads! Kickoff'this coming weekend, and the passive program, "Book in a Jar". ITEM NO. 5 REPORTS Library Board Chairman Chairman Snitz mentioned the "Arbor Daze"event from the previous weekend. Library Board Vice-Chairman Chairman Gibbs noted all of the upcoming May 4th activities including"Shred Day"at City Hall, "Springtime on the Plaza" at Glade Parks, "HEB Reads!" kick off, and "May the Fourth be with You"at the Euless Family Life Center. ITEM NO. 6 PUBLIC COMMENTS Library Board Minutes,May 2, 2019,Page 3 of 3 LuAnn Portugal of Euless, TX asked Ms. Knight about the uptick in overdue fees for items out >45 days. Ms.Knight said there could be several factors and told Ms.Portugal she would look into the matter. Ms. Portugal also gave an overview of developmental updates taking place in the city. Additionally, Ms. Portugal remarked that she was pleased with the ReadSquared App which she had already downloaded and used to registered for HEB Reads! ITEM NO. 7 ADJOURNMENT Chairman Snitz asked for a motion to adjourn. The motion was made by Vice Chairman Gibbs and seconded by Board Member McAllister.
