Park and Recreation Board
October 21, 1974
CALL TO ORDER
The regular meeting of the Park
and Recreation Board was called to order at 7:45 in the Simmons
Drive Community Center by Chairman Hunt. Members present were
Messrs. Charles Hunt and Jay Theder. Mr. Dave Williams arrived
at 7:55, Mrs. Carolyn Griffin at 8:30 and Mrs. Jolly Rawlings
at 9:00 p.m. (Absent was Councilman Harold Copher)
Also present were Mrs. Wakeley,
Rev. David Griffin, Mr. Robert Cowan, and Recording Secretary
Denise Holden.
INVOCATION
The invocation was given by Rev.
David Griffin.
I.
SIMMONS CENTER ORIENTATION
Mrs. Wakeley conducted a tour of
•
the Simmons Center answering questions about the new facility and
recreation program.
Mrs. Wakeley left at 8:10.

II.
BEAUTIFICATION & PARKS
Mr. Peters was unable to attend
the meeting and offered to give his report at a later date.
III.
COMMUNITY OUTREACH COMMITTEE
Mr. Robert Cowan, representing the
Council of Social Concerns, reported on a survey conducted in the
Community to discover its social priorities. He stated that the
Council of Social Concerns is interested in how to answer these
priorities, or designing a program to meet the services desired
in the Community, and also its relationship with the Park and
Recreation Department in providing these services.

Rev. Griffin reported on the
Community Outreach Committee. He passed out two handouts. The
first explaining the committee and the second outlining a
proposed project.
After a lengthy discussion with
Mr. Cowan and Rev. Griffin, the Board appointed Mr. Theder and
Mr. Williams as co-representatives of the Park and Recreation
Board to meet with the Community Outreach Committee at their
future meetings.
Rev. Griffin was asked to make
another report on his committee at the next Park Board meeting.
Rev. Griffin left at 10:15.

VI.
NORTH MAIN STREET BRIDGE
Mr. Hunt gave a status report on
the North Main Street Bridge discussing steps taken so far and
future plans.

The meeting adjourned at 11:10 p.m.
