HomeMy WebLinkAbout1974-04-15 Regular Meeting Park and Recreation Board April 15, 1974 CALL TO ORDER The regular meeting of the Park and Recreation Board was called to order at 8:00 P. M. in the Conference Room of the Euless City Hall by Mr. Charles Hunt. Members present were: Mesdms. Carolyn Griffin, and Jolly Rawlings; Messrs. Jay Theder, Jack Stoltze and Harold Copher. Also present was Park and Recreation Director Frank Lindsey. VISITORS Visitors present were Messrs. Bill Tursell , Bowles, Terry Castleberry, and Leighton Railsback. INVOCATION The invocation was given by Mr. Frank Lindsey. APPROVAL OF MINUTES The minutes of the regular meeting dated March 18, 1974 were approved with the following correction: ITEM III - A motion was made by Mr. Jack Stoltze that signs be erected where playground equipment is installed on school property, stating the equipment was purchased by the City of Euless. REQUEST FOR CLERICAL HELP Mr. Jack Stoltze moved, effective May 1 , 1974, that a clerk be employed full time by the Park and Recreation Department, whose duties will include taking the minutes of the Park and Recreation Board meetings; monies to be provided by the Park and Recreation clerical funding as presently budgeted and that the Chairman of the Park and Recreation Board secure these services from the City Manager. Mr. Jay Theder seconded the motion and the vote is as follows: Ayes: Mesdms. Griffin, and Rawlings; Messrs. Stoltze, Hunt, Theder and Copher Nays: None Chairman Hunt declared the motion carried. (Page Two, Regular Meeting Park and Recreation Board, April 15, 1974) II . RIFLE RANGE REPORT Mr. Bowles presented advantages and disadvantages of a rifle range in Euless. He stated that the land available is in a good location for a rifle range. The rifle range is in the planning stage. The Park and Recreation Board will work with the Police Department on this project. III . DIRECTOR' S REPORT BIDS: TRINITY BASEBALL FIELD LIGHTING Mr. Lindsey stated that the high bids for wood poles was $19,950.00 and steel poles was $35,750.00 for the lighting of Trinity baseball fields. He stated that the low bids were $18,700.00 for wood poles and $22,300.00 for metal poles. Mr. Jay Theder moved to recommend to the City Council to accept the low bid of $18,700.00 for the lighting of Trinity baseball fields with wood poles. The difference of $3,600.00 for steel poles to be paid by the Hurst-Euless-Bedford School District if they so desire. Mrs. Carolyn Griffin seconded the motion and the vote is as follows: Ayes: Mesdms. Griffin and Rawlings; Messrs. Stoltze, Theder, Hunt and Copher Nays: None Chairman Hunt declared the motion carried. IV. SOFTBALL (GIRLS) Mr. Terry Castleberry discussed a girls softball league to get started in Euless this year. Ages will start at nine by August through eleven years then twelve through sixteen. The Park and Recreation Board recommends that the girls softball league be under the auspices of the Park and Recreation Department for the 1974 season and Director, Mr. Lindsey, to carry out this program, as requested by the officers of the girls softball league. VI . ORGANIZATION CHART The Park Board is in agreement to the (Page Three, Regular Meeting, Park and Recreation Board, April 15, 1974) Park and Recreation Director's proposed organizational chart. VII . CALLED MEETING SCHEDULED Chairman Hunt asked for a called meeting on April 29, 1974 at 7:30 P. M. in the Conference Room to finish this agenda. VIII . PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH PROPERTY It is the feeling of the Park Board that the City reply to the latest proposal from the First Presbyterian Church. IX. ADJOURNMENT The meeting adjourned at 11 : 15 P. M.
