Park and Recreation Committee
March 19, 1973
CALL TO ORDER
The regular meeting of the Park
and Recreation Committee was called to order at 7:45 P. M. in the
Conference Room of Euless City Hall . Members present were Chairman
Charles Hunt, and Mrs. Carolyn Griffin. (Absent were Messr. Jay
Theder, Jack Stoltze, Ivan Gregory and Councilman Harold Copher.)
Also present were Park and
Recreation Director Frank Lindsey and Recording Secretary Kerry Brown.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Minutes of the regular meeting
dated February 19, 1973 were approved as written.
PARK AND RECREATION DIRECTOR' S REPORT
South Euless Neighborhood Pool
Mr. Lindsey stated that the
Committee should decide on a driveway plan for the South Euless Pool ,
either a one way or a turn around.
Mr. Hunt stated that the original
concept of the pool was a child oriented pool and the traffic should be
one way.
Mr. Lindsey stated that the choice
should be made as soon as possible in order to expedite the landscaping.
Mrs. Griffin and Mr. Hunt agreed
on the original plan of a one way drive, entering to the south and exiting
to the north off Main Street.
Community Building Activities
Mr. Lindsey stated plans are
being made to schedule Friday night as "Contest Night" at the Community
Building and persons under fifteen (15) years of age will be restricted
from these activities. He stated prizes for the contests will be donated
by area merchants.
Mr. Lindsey informed the Committee
foosball tables have been installed in the Community Building.

Wilshire Neighborhood Pool Parking Lot
Mr. Lindsey stated construction of
the parking lot at the Wilshire Pool is scheduled for March 20, 1973.
Recreation Programs
Mr. Lindsey stated the City
Manager has agreed to mail a recreation program to citizens on the water
billing list. Mrs. Griffin and Mr. Hunt were receptive to this idea.

MR. MELVIN SHANKS, ARLINGTON PARK
AND RECREATION DIRECTOR
Chairman Hunt introduced Mr. Melvin
Shanks, Arlington Park and Recreation Director.
In reply to a question from Mr.
Lindsey, Mr. Shanks stated that Arlington has one eighteen hole and one
nine hole golf course. He stated Arlington tried to locate parks one
mile apart and every third one to be a large park. He also stated that
the shape of a park is important.
Mr. Shank stated that Arlington
participates with the school system in use of school facilities during
the summer months. He commented, if possible, it would be a good idea
to have the school build their major facility as far to one side of the
site as possible, and the City do the same with their major facility.

PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT AT SCHOOL FACILITIES
Mr. Hunt stated that he talked
to Mr. Wages, School Superintendent, and they agreed that some of the
members of the Park and Recreation Committee should meet with Mr. Mulkey
and plan the arrangement of the playground equipment. Mr. Wages stated
consideration will be given to placing water fountains on the playground
area.
Mr. Hunt suggested meeting with
Mr. Mulkey the first part of April .

CHARTER AMENDMENT-
PARK AND RECREATION COMMITTEE
Mr. Hunt requested an advanced
distribution of the Park and Recreation Board City Charter Amendment
to all Park and Recreation Committee members.
