Parks and Recreation Committee
May 17, 1971
CALL TO ORDER
The regular meeting of the Parks and
Recreation Committee was called to order at 9:00 P. M. in the Conference
Room of Euless City Hall by Vice Chairman Ivan Gregory. Other members
present are listed as follows: Mmes. Joy Langston, Carolyn Griffin, and
Mr. Cullen McNair. (Absent: Chairman Charles Hunt and Mr. Jay Theder)
Also present were Director of Parks
and Recreation Frank D. Lindsey, and Recording Secretary Ophelia Smith.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
The minutes of the Parks and Recreation
Committee meeting dated April 19, 1971 , were approved as written.

WELCOME OF NEW COMMITTEE MEMBERS
Mrs. Carolyn Griffin, and Mrs. Joy
Langston were welcomed to the Parks and Recreation Committee.
Mrs. Griffin was appointed to serve
on the Committee in the vacancy left by the resignation of Mrs. Ann Martin.
She and her family have resided in Euless for the past eight years. She
is the mother of three boys, fourteen, eleven, and eight years of age.
Mrs. Griffin has been active in the Parent Teacher Association ever since
she moved to Euless, serving as President of South Euless Elementary School
for two years, also, President of Euless Junior High P.T.A. for two years,
and has served on the P.T.A. Council . Mrs. Griffin chose to serve on the
Parks and Recreation Committee because she is interested in this area of
the City 's development.
Mrs. Langston and her family moved to
Euless two years ago from Newark, New Jersey. She is the mother of two
boys and two girls whose ages range from three to thirteen years.
Mrs. Langston commented she enjoys the open space that Texas provides,
and living in Euless.
Other members of the Committee
welcomed both Mrs. Griffin and Mrs. Langston to the Committee, and
Mrs. Langston to Texas.

REPORT OF COMMITTEE MEETING
MAY 14, 1971
Vice Chairman Gregory reported that
Euless Parks and Recreation Committee had a work session May 14, 1971 ,
in the Conference Room of Euless City Hall regarding the proposed swimming
pool in South Euless Park. At this time Consulting Engineers presented
plans and specifications for the adjoining bath house, and advised the
minimum requirements for recipients of State Aid. The Committee feels
they are bound by minimum requirements regarding bath house facility.
Mr. Gregory reported the Consulting
Engineers also showed a drawing of the proposed design for the 40 ' x 80 '
swimming pool , plumbing layout, depth reading, fencing, etc.
The total cost for bath house and
swimming pool was not to exceed $85,000.

STATE AID FOR BUILDING
SWIMMING POOLS IN PUBLIC PARKS
Mr. McNair reported that the City
Engineer had submitted all forms for filing for State Aid to City Manager
C. J. Griggs, who had resubmitted them to the City Engineer to forward to
Austin, Texas, in the hopes of acquiring Aid for the building of the
proposed swimming pools with adjoining facilities in Euless City Parks.

ORIENTATION OF NEW
COMMITTEE MEMBERS
Vice Chairman Gregory, Mr. McNair,
and Parks and Recreation Director Frank Lindsey went over the ground work
on present plans for Parks and Recreation in the City of Euless, and all
members enthusiastically discussed plans for the future.

Vice Chairman Gregory declared the
meeting adjourned at 10:00 P. M.
