Vice Chairman Barney Snitz called the meeting to order at 7:02p.m. Chairman Mike McGehee was running
late.
DISPOSITION OF THE MINUTES: The Vice Chairman asked for a motion to be made to accept the
January 6, 2011 minutes. Marcia Brown made the motion to accept the minutes and Beverly Leake seconded
the motion.
WELCOME VISITORS: Vice Chairman Barney Snitz welcomed Councilman Leon Hogg and Jan Hogg and
LuAnn Portugal to the meeting. The Library Board wished a Happy Birthday to Councilman Hogg.
REPORT FROM THE LIBRARY ADMINISTRATOR:
Kate presented the statistics. Statistics somewhat lower than last month due to the library being closed one day
and closed early two other days due to inclement weather.
Masterworks Programs:
Rhett Butler performed on February 21St with 75 in attendance.
The Killdares will perform on March 14th. The Killdares are a rock Celtic group with a large following so we
expect a very large crowd.
Friends of the Library Spring Book Sale is April 16th, 17th and 18th. New Hours on the Early Bird Sale on
Friday will be from 2:00pm to 5:00pm.
The Library has completed the annual inventory and the results are once again outstanding. Out of 63,452 items
inventoried we only have 68 items missing. This figure is less than 1/10 of 1%.
Kate shared with the board how serious the possible cuts from the state will be to libraries. Funding to North
Texas Regional Library System could be completely cut which would impact Loan Star Grant Fund money.
Some examples of what we use the Loan Star money are TX Share Courier Service; Job Kiosk; Supplies for the
Poster Printer; Downloadable Books.
Kate also shared that without the Loan Star Grant money we could lose databases in the library that we
purchase with the funding and is not in our budget. She urged everyone to communicate with our State
Legislators regarding the possible cuts.
Kate met with our rep from Recorded Books. They are ending their relationship with Net Library and by the
fall will be offering e-books. The platform we currently have now to circulate downloadable audio books will
be the same that we would use for e-books. Check out of the e-book will be treated the same as a hard copy
book. E-books will work with all readers except the Kindle.
