Chairman Mike McGehee called the meeting to order at 7:00p.m.
DISPOSITION OF THE MINUTES: The Chairman asked for a motion to be made to accept the April 2,2009
minutes. Betty Fuller made the motion to accept the minutes and Barney Snitz seconded the motion.
WELCOME VISITORS: Chairman Mike McGehee and Library Administrator,Kate Lyon welcomed LuAnn Portugal,
Denise Miles,City Councilman Leon Hogg and his wife,Jan.
REPORT FROM THE LIBRARY ADMINISTRATOR:
Kate reported that statistics continue to be outstanding even though the library was closed for 5 days in April due to
Spring Holiday weekend and Arbor Daze.
Masterworks Programs: We had 98 attend the Rhett Butler program. The next program on May 11,2009 will be
"Three Fools on Three Stools."
Youth Department: SRC starts on June 8 with Miki the Monkey. Programs for this summer are paid for by the Friends
of the Library/ELF from the book sales.
Adult Reference: We are having Adult Summer Reading again this year. Patrons completing the reading requirements
will receive a"Deep in the Heart of Texas"coffee mug that has a package of complimentary Euless Public Library
Bluebonnet seeds.
The Edible Book Contest was a huge success. The winners:
Most Humorous "There's A Hair in My Dirt"submitted by Leticia Villegas
Best Representation of a Book Cover "Nuclear Jelly Fish"submitted by Ellen Collins
Most Elaborate&Difficult "Frankenstein" submitted by Carolyn Edge
Patron's Choice "Sweet Potato Queens Book of Love"submitted by Karan Jasper
Downloadable books are available now and everything is working well.
Becky Moren and Leticia Villegas worked over the Arbor Daze weekend to change out the software on the public
computers. The new software allows the patrons to have three sessions per day up to one hour per session. If a patron
signs off after using less than an hour it still counts as the full session. Patrons only have to wait 15 minutes between each
session.
The Friends of the Library Spring Sale was very successful making over$2400.00.

DISCUSSIONS:
1. Barney Snitz reports that the ELF tile project is going great. ELF participated in Arbor Daze displaying the tiles
and 80%of the book spines have been sold.
2. Barney Snitz had a great time judging the Edible Book Contest and was impressed with all of the creativity of the
staff.
3. Marcia Brown invited everyone to come to the Memorial Day program at Trinity High School on May 20th at
4:30pm. The students have painted sticks to honor the fallen soldiers from Iraq,Afghanistan,and all war
Veterans.
CITIZEN INPUT:
Councilperson Leon Hogg reported that the corporate offices for Redimix Concrete are being built on Main Street. He
also reported that the City of Euless has five employees that will be retiring this year.
LuAnn Portugal reports that she thinks the displays in the cabinets are wonderful and wishes they were more visible. She
also reports how much she enjoyed the Rhett Butler program.
Denise Miles was impressed with the programs the Youth Department put together for Arbor Daze.

The Chairman asked for a motion to adjourn. The motion was made by Marcia Brown and seconded by Barney Snitz.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:53 p.m.
