MEMBERS STAFF OTHERS Marcia Brown Kate Lyon LuAnn Portugal Priscilla Cauley-absent Karan Jasper Stephanie Portugal Betty Fuller Denise Miles Beverly Leake Chris McAllister Mike McGehee Barney Snitz Adriane Weinstein Chairman Mike McGehee called the meeting to order at 7:00p.m. DISPOSITION OF THE MINUTES: The Chairman asked for a motion to be made to accept the December 4,2008 minutes. Beverly Leake made the motion to accept the minutes and Adriane Weinstein seconded the motion. WELCOME VISITORS: Chairman Mike McGehee and Library Administrator,Kate Lyon welcomed our visitors LuAnn Portugal, Stephanie Portugal,and Denise Miles to the meeting. REPORT FROM THE LIBRARY ADMINISTRATOR: Statistics continue to be outstanding including the Wireless Access Stats. Staff Update: Rachel Feltenberger, our new Senior Librarian in the Youth Department,hit the ground running on December 11th. The Youth Department is working hard planning new programs and events. Pat-a-Cake is a new baby story time that started on January 21St Kate reports that we have the schedule for our new Masterworks Series and the attendance has been low for several of the performances. Since the city continues to include this service by funding our budget each year we are asking that the Library Board help us by attending the programs and sharing the information with friends,family and other organizations they are involved in. Childrens' programming usually have a good turnout,but the adult programming does not always have a strong turnout. Kate and Betty Fuller will be attending the NTRLS Assembly Meeting on January 22,2009 at the Colleyville Public Library. On January 31,2009 NTRLS is sponsoring a Conference for Library Supporters from 8:30am to 3:30pm at Lockheed Martin in Fort Worth. The city has offered to pay for the Library Board to attend. If you would like to attend let Karan know and she will get you registered. The Town Hall Meetings will start back on January 15th and again on January 29th at City Hall starting at 7:00p.m. We have a new book club,Novel Ideas that meets every other Sunday in the Board Room from 2pm until 4pm. ELECTION OF LIBRARY BOARD OFFICERS FOR 2009 Barney Snitz nominated Mike McGehee as Chairman of the Library Board. There were no further nominations and Betty Fuller seconded the motion. All board members voted in favor of Mike McGehee to serve as Chairman of the Library Board for 2009. Betty Fuller nominated Barney Snitz as Vice-Chairman of the Library Board. There were no further nominations and Adriane Weinstein seconded the motion. All board members voted in favor of Barney Snitz to serve as Vice-Chairman ' of the Library Board for 2009. Betty Fuller nominated Barney Snitz and Chris McAllister as Library Board Representatives to the Euless Library Foundation for 2009. There were no further nominations and Marcia Brown seconded the motion. All board members voted in favor of Barney Snitz and Chris McAllister to serve as Library Board Representatives to the Euless Library Foundation for 2009. DISCUSSIONS: Mike McGehee shared with the board that he is very proud of our current board and always very proud of our library. He wanted to know if there were other suggestions to help the library advertise the programming we offer to the public. Adriane suggested more displays of the events in the library. Chris McAllister suggested advertise at the local schools,and Denise Miles suggested promote to the high schools as date nights at the library. Kate reports that Karan makes posters and flyers for each program and the flyers are distributed to Texas Star, Senior Center, and Midway Recreation Center. The flyers and the posters are displayed in the library and the information is also passed on to Betsy Deck,Communications Manager for the City of Euless,to be added to the cable and webpage. Chris McAllister also shared with the board that his mother-in-law would like to volunteer at the library and offer needlepoint classes. Since we currently have knitting classed on Tuesdays possibly the Senior Center would be another good place to offer her time and skills. Chris would also like to see us offer to host a Library Family Day to read and distribute books. Barney was excited to find our new Internationl Collection and picked up one of our new Chinese books and was sharing with the board that we have Arabic,Hindi, French,Mandarin and several other culture books. Barney also wanted to know if anything is being planned to honor Boyce Byers in the Library or at the City. Kate said that the Mayor and City Council are working on a way to honor her. Adriane Weinstein was also pleased to know about our International book collection. CITIZEN INPUT: Denise Miles will be moving from Euless to Canada and wanted to let everyone know how very much she has enjoyed her time at the Library and her volunteer time in the different departments of the city. LuAnn Portugal and her daughter Stephanie praised the library,and shared with the board that the library has always played a very important part of their lives. ADJOURNMENT: The Chairman asked for a motion to adjourn. The motion was made by Marcia Brown and seconded by Adriane Weinstein.
