MEMBERS STAFF OTHERS Mike McGehee Kate Lyon Marcus Jackson Barney Snitz Karan Jasper Public Relations Student at UTA Betty Fuller LuAnn Portugal Marcia Brown-absent Adriane Weinstein Chairman Mike McGehee called the meeting to order at 7:03 p.m. DISPOSITION OF THE MINUTES: The Chairman asked for a motion to be made to accept the September 4,2008 minutes. Betty Fuller made the motion to accept the minutes, and Adriane Weinstein seconded the motion. REPORT FROM THE LIBRARY ADMINISTRATOR: Statistics remain good even though the Circulation numbers are down some from last month,but still up from last year. Staff Update: Leta Jones has been promoted from part-time Librarian Assistant to full-time Librarian Assistant effective October 30,2008. We have received some good candidates for the Youth Senior Librarian position and Kate will interview when she recovers from surgery. Friday, October 10th is Denim Day for the staff and the Burger Bash for the city. The staff will be wearing jeans that day. Programming: Heather Brewer author of The Chronicles of Vladimir Todd series will be here on Monday,October 13 at 7p.m. The books are very popular with the teens. The Job Kiosk is going away at the end of September. The kiosk company feels like it is not beneficial even though we have over 300 each month that use the service. The Reference staff is putting together for the patrons a bibliography of job sites. The reception for Marion was a big success. Everyone attending enjoyed the history of Marion's business and her projects. Many tiles were sold that evening and even more applications taken home. Early Voting dates: October 20, 2008 through October 31, 2008. Boards and Commission interviews will be on October 13,2008. The Friends of the Library Book Sale is October 10, 11, and 12th. In addition to the books they will also be selling the Peepers. Kate showed the board the new Trinity High School Read poster that was produced, again this year,with the Photo Journalism class. Staples printed and laminated the poster. The posters were delivered to Trinity and everyone was very excited to receive their copy. The staff will distribute to the remaining schools in the next couple of weeks. Kate reports that we have a great deal of problems with the self-serve coffee machine in the Reference area. The owner of the machine does not clean the machine well or often. The kids get into the sugar, creamer, etc and make a big mess and the staff is unable to keep a close eye on them to prevent this from happening. Kate asked for feedback from the board regarding taking the service out of the library. The board suggested we stop the coffee service for 30-days and if no comments then discontinue the service. Page 2 Library Board Minutes October 2,2008 Tammi Trull,Assistant Library Administrator,will sit in for Kate at the November Library Board Meeting. DISCUSSIONS: 1. Mike McGehee reports that the ELF tile project is going well with over 40% of the tiles sold. 2. Barney Snitz said he really enjoyed the reception for the tile project and really enjoyed listening to Marion speak and the presentation of some of her other tile projects. Barney also wanted to remind everyone that the Trinity High School Parade is October 6th at 6pm. He also wanted to remind everyone of the open house for the Fire Department and the Police Department on October 4th. 3. Mike suggested that we have a meeting in December since we will have new board members. The board agreed and we will have a regular scheduled meeting on Thursday,December 4, 2008 CITIZEN INPUT: Marcus Jackson thanked the board for allowing him to sit in on the meeting. ADJOURNMENT: The Chairman asked for a motion to adjourn. The motion was made by LuAnn Portugal and seconded by Adriane Weinstein.
