DISPOSITION OF THE MINUTES: The Chairman asked for a motion to be made to accept the April 3,2008
minutes. Barney Snitz made the motion to accept the minutes, and Adriane Weinstein seconded the motion.
REPORT FROM THE LIBRARY ADMINISTRATOR:
In celebration of National Volunteer Week Kate handed out key chains and pens to the Library Board. Kate expressed
how very much she appreciates each board member and all they do to support the library and the staff.
The Euless Library Foundation has eyeglass holders called Peepers available for sale as a fund raiser. They sold several at
Arbor Daze and will have them on display at the Friends of the Library Book Sale. Proceeds go towards the cost of the
tile project.
The statistics continue to be good. The library was closed for 3 days for the carpet installation and Arbor Daze weekend
and even so the circulation was higher than one year ago.
The 3`d Annual Edible Book Contest was a great success with 23 entries this year. We had Linda Martin,Leon Hogg, and
Tim Stinneford from the City Council, Carolyn Marshall from the Human Resources Department, and our very own
Barney Snitz as judges this year.
Construction Update: Carpet installation started on April 25 and should be completed in 7-10 days. They will also be
installing new baseboards. New furniture has been ordered for the new Reference office space, the Circulation Leads, and
Tech Service. The new office space for Tech Services should be completed in a few weeks. The fabric for chairs and
loveseats will be ordered next week, and International Library Furniture will do the upholstery work.
Mayor Saleh and Kate Lyon attended the opening of the new two-story North Richland Hills Library. It is a beautiful
building with 2 gas fireplaces with a reading area and a coffee shop. Kate feels our library is still so beautiful and
inviting.
DISCUSSIONS:
1. Chairman, Mike McGehee, asked Kate to give a report on TLA.
2. Kate reports that TLA was wonderful and Barney joined her at the luncheon and they enjoyed the guest speaker,
Jenna Bush. Kate reported that the session on Changing Demographics was very informative. Kate reported that
Recorded Books has gone into partnership with Amazon.com and plan on working out the problems of
downloading books to MP3 players and iPods. Recorded Books will be offering the ability to have multiple users
but Overdrive continues only offer one person at a time to check out the book. 3-M has a RFID project that has
been upgraded to make self check-out easier. At some point we will probably move into RFID but at this point all
media is a challenge to the system.

3. Barney Snitz reported that he enjoyed TLA and was impressed with Jenna Bush and her book.
4. Marcia Brown also enjoyed TLA. Marcia also reports that she attended a seminar for schools in Houston. The
steering committee at the seminar would like to see on-line catalog available in other languages to make locating
books easier to find for everyone.
5. LuAnn Portugal would like for us to reach out into the community to make sure we are meeting the needs of our
citizens. Perhaps a brief survey included with water bills would be useful.
6. Betty Fuller wanted to know if there is a report of where the library cards are issued by zip code to see the
breakdown in the city. Kate will get back to the board on this.
7. Mike McGehee shared with the board that on Monday,June 2, 2008 Kate will receive her Certificate of Public
Management in a ceremony in Austin.
