Parks and Leisure Services Board
October 3, 2011
CALL TO ORDER
The regular meeting of the Parks and Leisure Services Board was called to order at 7:00 p.m. on
Monday, October 3, 2011, in the Council Chambers of the Euless City Hall building by Chairman
Eric Owens. Other Board Members present: Randy Jones, Carroll Scott, Alex Horton, Darrel
Knobloch and alternates Travis Riffle and Tiffany Smith. Members absent:John Raab.
Staff members present: Director of Parks and Community Services Ray McDonald, Parks
Superintendent Terry Boaz, Parks Manager Randy Smith, Special Projects Coordinator Ofa Faiva-
Siale and Administrative Secretary Linda Lux.
Visitors present: Andrew Leonardo,Jackie and Betty Wilbanks, Barbara Collier and Emily Burk.
INVOCATION
Randy Jones gave the invocation.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Chairman Owens asked if there were any additions or corrections to the minutes from the
September 12, 2011 regular meeting. Randy Jones made the motion to approve the minutes with
the following correction to Item I - "Randy Jones mentioned there was a light out at Trailwood
Park" and asked that it be added to his report. Carroll Scott seconded the motion. The vote was
unanimous.
I. Board Member's Reports
Carroll Scott—Reflection Park, Villages of Bear Creek Park—reported no items of concern
Alex Horton - Midway Park, Blessing Branch Park—reported no items of concern

Trailwood Park
Darrel Knobloch - J. A. Carr Park, Kiddie Carr Park — picnic table overturned at Kiddie Carr and
trash in creek
Tiffany Smith—McCormick Park, Preserve at McCormick Park—couple of lights out by the gazebo
Chairman Owens- Parks at Texas Star Athletic Complex—reported no items of concern
Chairman Owens commented on the following recent special event held:
• Saturday, October 1St—Stars over Euless—Bob Eden Park—8:00 p.m.to 9:30 p.m.
Ray McDonald said the event was well attended with over 300 people and everyone had a great
time.
Chairman Owens thanked everyone for their reports tonight.
II. Volunteer of the Month
Chairman Owens presented Andrew Leonardo with the October 2011 Volunteer of the Month
plaque. He mentioned that Andrew had volunteered previously for the 2010 Junior Anglers
Fishing event and the 2010 Back to School KidsFest event. In fact it was at our 2011 Back to
School KidsFest that he drew the attention from our staff. At this event he was assigned as a
greeter to welcome our guests. He not only succeeded in doing so with a warm welcome and
salutation's, but he went further by directing and informing our guests to the various areas of our
special event, including the door prize sign-in table, carnival games, vendor display tables, and the
outdoor bounce houses. In addition he took it upon himself to help other volunteers pass out the
fruit that was donated for the event. It was clear that this young man possesses leadership skills,
and is one that we are happy to have on our team. Andrew thanked the Board Members for the
award.

III. Beautification Award of the Month
Chairman Owens stated that each year from May through October we do a residential and
business/civic/governmental Yard of the Month award.
Chairman Owens said the October 2011 Residential Beautification Award of the Month goes to
Mr. and Mrs. Jackie Wilbanks at 911 Clebud Drive. This yard is beautifully landscaped with green
shrubs along the front exterior of the home. They have added a variety of ornamental grasses,
Indian Hawthorne, Nandinas, Potato Vines and 4 O'clocks. This owner takes great pride in the
work that has been done in their yard. Thank you for helping to beautify Euless. Mr. and Mrs.
Wilbanks both thanked the Board Members for this award.
Chairman Owens said the October 2011 Business/Civic/Governmental Beautification Award of the
Month goes to the First United Methodist Church at 106 N. Main Street. This property is well
maintained and a great attraction to the surrounding businesses as well as to their parishioners.
The property has assorted shrubs, Live Oaks as well as beautiful Red Oaks on the grounds. The
grounds are green, well manicured and are truly an asset to the community. It is efforts like yours
that make Euless a great place to work and live. Thank you for contributing to the beautification
of our city. Barbara Collier and Emily Burk were present to receive the award. Ms. Collier said the
church celebrated 135 years yesterday as the oldest operating business at the same address. Ms.
Burk is on the House and Grounds Committee at the church. They both thanked the city and
Board Members for the award.
IV. Business of the Tree Board
Tree Board Chairman Carroll Scott reported on the following for September 1st—30th:

o 32.00 Special Projects
o 0 Training
• There were four (4)trees planted and one (1)tree related purchase

Chairman Owens gave the benediction. There being no further business to conduct, the meeting
was adjourned at 7:40 p.m.
