Maas made the motion and Clyde seconded the motion.
Item 3—Update on Proposed Improvements for FY 03-04
Larry James gave an update on improvements to the shelter by Facility Maintenance.
Doesn't have a start date for the improvements yet. The City of Bedford's shelter is
willing to shelter animals for Euless, and we also have several cages available to house
dogs outside.
Dr. Maas asked to further discuss item from last meeting regarding litters of puppies and
kittens that are brought to shelter by owners. She proposed that shelter see if it would be
feasible if shelter could require person dropping off a whole litter at shelter to have the
"queen" spayed or pay a fee for bringing in whole litter. Larry said the shelter charges
$10 per animal and an additional $15 per animal that is not current on a rabies shot which
puppies &kittens would not be for a total of$25. Larry said the cost for neutering a male
dog is $104 and spaying starts at $100 and goes up per pound. Will see if it can be added
in ordinance that shelter will require the "queen" to be spayed in order for the shelter to

take unwanted litter of puppies and kittens. Larry suggested that the shelter could waive
the whole fee charged for the puppies/kittens if the owner would have the "queen" spayed
since person adopting puppies/kittens would pay for rabies shots. This waiver of fee
could also be added in ordinance. The shelter could take the "queen"to vet to be spayed
and charge the owner the fee for spaying.
Item 4—Activity Report for October—December, 2003
Larry James distributed activity report for viewing for the period October through
December 2003.
