final count on other shots. Approximately 160-175 dogs were treated. Larry reported
that $550 was earned shaving dogs, $52 from donations, and 2 dogs and 1 cat were
adopted. Renovation tours of the shelter were given. Dr. Maas praised volunteer, Conna
Sanner, for her help at the Dog Daze event. Clyde also commended Conna for her
volunteer work at the shelter and is giving her a $25 gift certificate from Raven's Grille
on behalf of the shelter. Clyde reported that between $400-$450 was spent on the event
and $602 was raised. The difference will be put in the Injured Animal fund. Kroger
donated food for the event. Dr. Maas noted that there were a lot of comments expressing
appreciation from the citizens who attended. Clyde thanked Dr. Maas for bringing her
crew to help at Dog Daze.
ITEM 4—SHELTER IMPROVEMENTS
Clyde reported that the shelter received new paint, carpet, tile, A/C unit, vents, ceiling
tile, trim wall paint, furniture for Larry's office, new dog runs, fences, cleaning system,
dog bowls, feed dishes, dishwasher, counter tops, sinks, and plumbing for washer and
dryer. Ron thanked Councilman Hogg for his help getting the funding for the shelter
remodeling.
Bedford's shelter housed 7 animals during the shelter remodel. Our staff supplied 4
cages, fed, cleaned and took care of the animals. Some dogs were kept in our shelter's
outdoor covered area.
ITEM 5 -ANIMAL CONTROL OFFICER TRAINING
Larry James said he is attending an MTMA supervisor training class which lasts 10
months. Kenny Sparger is working on getting his certification that takes 3 years to get.
All other shelter staff are up to date on training—have their 10 hours in for this year.
Animal Control officers carry business cards. Leon suggested putting certificate number
on the business cards.
ITEM 6-ANIMAL DONATIONS FROM LIBRARY
Larry James distributed an e-mail with list of donations. Library was successful getting
donations for the shelter by forgiving book fines, and the Library benefited by getting
their books back from citizens.
ITEM 7 - BOARD MEMBERS OR CITIZENS REQUESTS OF ITEMS OF
INTEREST TO BE ADDRESSED BY STAFF AND/OR PLACED ON FUTURE
AGENDAS
Larry James distributed the Quarterly Report for Board to review. Dr. Maas commented
that the Quarterly Report showed that there were more animals adopted than euthanized.
Mostly injured animals and skunks euthanized.
Larry distributed copies of a Letter of Recognition for Larry Atkinson for Board to read.
Dr. Maas acknowledged letter of commendation from a citizen regarding Larry
Atkinson's response on a call. Ron will take letter to next Directors staff meeting. A
copy will be put in Larry's file in Human Resources.
Larry James stated that Larry Atkinson & Richard Boatright go above and beyond their
duties.
Larry James stated that using the services of All Paws Go To Heaven for cremations was
working out great.
Leon asked if Trinity High School students are still using the internet to help shelter
animals get adopted. Two 2 dogs and maybe 2 cats have been adopted through this
program. The students pay half the adoption fee.
Leon asked if any ordinances need to be changed. Larry James recommended addressing
crowing rooster noise in City's ordinances.
Discussed horses kept on property on Glade. Ron stated that there is a discrepancy
between UDC and Animal Control Ordinance regarding how many horses can be kept
per acre. Leon asked that the ordinance be brought up to date.
Ron will talk to Loretta Getchell to see if shelter can accept credit cards for adoptions.
Shelter has lost adoptions by not having this option available.
Leon asked if it was time to change officers. He asked if someone else wanted the
opportunity to be the chairperson.
ITEM 8 - ADJOURN
Leon asked if there was other business to be considered by the Board. There being none,
Leon entertained the motion to adjourn. Dr. Maas made the motion and Clyde seconded
