MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING
OF THE
ANIMAL SHELTER ADVISORY BOARD
August 25, 2005
ITEM 1 —CALL TO ORDER
A meeting of the Animal Shelter Advisory Board was called to order by Chairman Leon
Hogg at 11:11 A.M. at the City of Euless Animal Control Shelter, 1517 Westpark Way,
Euless, Texas 76040.
The following members were in attendance:
Leon Hogg
Gayla Maas, D.V.M.
Clyde Cullum
Staff Support: Ron Young, Larry James, Chris Barker, Cynthia Daniel
ITEM 2 - REVIEW AND APPROVE MINUTES FROM MEETING OF APRIL 28,
2005
Leon Hogg asked if there were any questions regarding the minutes of April 28, 2005.
Leon entertained a motion for approval of the Minutes of April 28, 2005. Dr. Maas made
the motion and Clyde Cullum seconded the motion. Motion approved.
ITEM 3 - ADOPTION ADVERTISING ON CITY OF EULESS INFORMATION
CHANNEL (CH. 15)
Clyde said it is still in the process.
ITEM 4 - DOG DAZE 2005 UPDATE
Dr. Maas gave the update. 134 dogs and 1 cat were seen. 119 dogs and 1 cat were given
rabies shots, 11 puppies were given other puppy shots and 4 that were current on
vaccinations received heartworm tests. Of the 135 animals, 21 took rabies shots only.
30% of the dogs seen were new rabies vaccinations (never had one or had lapsed 3-4
years), and of those dogs 24% of the dogs getting new shots were living in the City of
Euless. 28 dogs that were without rabies vaccinations were vaccinated. 50 dogs were
placed on heartworm prevention.
ITEM 5 - DENVER, COLORADO'S BAN ON PIT BULLS
Distributed copy of article that was in the Fort Worth Star Telegram regarding ban. Chris
reported on the research he has done on other cities and states. He also looked at a

website that is against breed specific bans that is trying to educate the public against
breed specific bans and consider dangerous animal type ordinances. He found that there
are three Texas cities that have breed specific bans or dangerous animal type ordinances.
Chris will do more research on breed specific, dangerous animal compared to vicious
animal laws and report at next shelter meeting. Clyde and Larry noted that Euless has a
vicious animal ordinance.
ITEM 6- EULESS PIT BULL AND ROTTWEILER INCIDENT
Discussed incident that happened on Timber Ridge. Incident started approximately 2
months ago with a lady walking her dog. She was knocked down and her dog was
attacked by a pitbull and a rottweiler. The dogs were destroyed by Animal Control. It is
now a civil case in which the injured lady is suing the owners of the dogs.
ITEM 7- COYOTE AND BOBCAT SITINGS
Distributed copy of article in the Star Telegram about Coyotes. Discussed sitings of
bobcats at the City's golf course. Traps have been set but have not caught anything but
racoons and opossums. They do not appear to be aggressive towards humans. Discussed
installing signs at golf course warning golfers not to feed or try to pet them. Dr. Maas
suggested the City set aside some acreage to relocate wild animals to since new
construction is uprooting animals from their habitats.
ITEM 8 - CUSTOMER SERVICE REPORT
Larry James distributed the Customer Service Report. Chris commented that the number
of animals in the shelter was up. Shelter receiving a lot of calls regarding animals at
large. Chris asked Larry how the Noisy Animal Ordinance was working. Larry said no
one wants to go through the Court. Complainants want to remain anonymous.
ITEM 9 - BOARD MEMBERS OR CITIZENS REQUESTS OF ITEMS OF
INTEREST TO BE ADDRESSED BY STAFF AND/OR PLACED ON FUTURE
AGENDAS
Discussed "Pooper Scooper" sign to be installed at City parks. Sign will be a text
message sign instead of a picture sign which reads "Please pick up and remove your
animal's waste." Signs will be posted at park entrances on same poles as existing park
signs.
Ron said there are no capital improvements planned for the shelter in next year's budget.

Shelter has a new fold-a-way table and the incinerator has been removed. Shelter is still
using "All Paws Go To Heaven". Area where incinerator used to be is now being used
for storage.
Ron said City will start the design of the new Public Works facility in the next budget
year if the Council approves the budget. Plan to have access from the existing animal
shelter to the new Public Works facility and that the north end of the new facility will be
reserved for a new shelter in the future.
Discussed the upcoming Boards and Commissions appointments for next year. Dr. Maas
and Michelle Benton will be asked if they will serve again.
Distributed Thank You cards the shelter has received.
Next Board meeting is October 27, 2005.
ITEM 10—ADJOURN
Leon asked if there was other business to be considered by the Board. There being none,
Leon entertained the motion to adjourn. Dr. Maas made the motion and Clyde seconded
it. The vote was unanimous.
The meeting was adjourned at 11:50 A.M.
