OF THE
ANIMAL SHELTER ADVISORY BOARD
October 21, 2010
ITEM 1 - CALL TO ORDER
A meeting of the Animal Shelter Advisory Board was called to order by Chairman Dr.
Gayla Maas at 11:01 A.M. at the City of Euless Animal Control Shelter, 1517 Westpark
Way, Euless, Texas 76040.
The following members were in attendance:

Leon Hogg
Michelle Watson
Staff Support: Ron Young, J. T. Ackerman, Larry James, & Cynthia Daniel
Citizen Attendance: None
ITEM 2 - REVIEW AND APPROVE MINUTES FROM MEETING OF JULY 15, 2010
Chairman Maas asked if there were any questions regarding the minutes of July 15,
2010. Leon Hogg made a motion to approve the Minutes of July 15, 2010. Michelle
Watson seconded the motion. Motion approved.
ITEM 3 - STAFF REPORT- SHELTER OPERATIONS
Discussed resignation of Board member, Clyde Cullum. City Council will approve new
member at the October 26, 2010 Council meeting. J. T. Ackerman has been nominated
and has City staff recommendation. January 1, 2011 will be the effective start date for
the new Board member.
ITEM 4- SHELTER STATISTICS REPORT
It was noted that for this year - this quarter, that dead animals removed was up almost
100%, animal bites was up almost 50%, adoptions are still up, animals released to
owners was down, number of animals kept in shelter down a little, and the number of
calls for services was down compared to same quarter last year. Dead animals
removed were mostly animals picked up from streets and calls from owners of
deceased pets.

ITEM 5—WINTER HEATING FOR KENNEL AREA
Chairman Maas commented that the kennel area does not have enough heating to keep it in
compliance. The temperature in the kennel area should not get below 50 degrees in the winter.
Kennel area temperature gets below that. The temperature in the kennel area in the summer is
also warmer than state standards. The heating and cooling system for the kennel area needs to
be upgraded and brought into compliance with state standards.
A work order has been turned into Kyle McAdams. He is going to have auxiliary heating put in
for this winter and next year he will have kennel area vented.
ITEM 6— DOG BATH WATER SUPPLY
Larry said the request by the GAP Club for warm water to bathe dogs has been addressed. A
water hose will be run from inside the kennel to a faucet in the middle closet that has cold and
hot water to use on the large dogs. The little dogs will be bathed in the sink.
ITEM 7 — GAP CLUB FENCED AREA REQUEST
Larry advised that shelter has a little bit of fencing. The GAP Club is supposed to
supply the fencing materials. The Fire Department has approved the request to enclose
a portion of the grassy area at the back of the shelter property. Need to know how
much area will be needed. J. T. noted that a double wide gate will be needed to get a
mower in the enclosed area. Waiting for donations.
ITEM 8 - SET TENTATIVE DATES FOR FUTURE ASAB MEETINGS
Tentatively set the 2011 meetings for the third Thursday of January, April, July and
October which would be January 20th, April 21st, July 21st and October 20th.
Michelle made the motion and Leon seconded it. Motion approved.
ITEM 9 — BOARD MEMBERS OR CITIZENS REQUESTS OF ITEMS OF INTEREST TO BE
ADDRESSED BY STAFF AND/OR PLACED ON FUTURE AGENDAS
Dr. Maas asked for the record if protocol was followed regarding Clyde's retirement from
the Board. Leon said Michelle and Dr. Maas would need to submit a letter of
resignation when they resign but it was not necessary for Clyde or him to submit a letter
of resignation.
Staff will follow-up on GAP Club fencing request. Estimated the area should be 48 feet
by 20-25 feet. Leon will try to come up with way to get materials.
Ron mentioned receipt of some open records request regarding shelter statistics and
euthanasias.

Chairman Maas requested city pet registration be put on the next meeting's agenda to
discuss.
ITEM 10 —ADJOURN
The meeting was adjourned at 11:23 A.M.
