Staff Support: Ron Young, Larry James, & Cynthia Daniel
Citizen Attendance: None
ITEM 2 - REVIEW AND APPROVE MINUTES FROM MEETING OF JULY 15, 2010

Watson seconded the motion. Motion approved.

Chairman Maas welcomed new Board member, JT Ackerman.
ITEM 4 - STAFF REPORT — OFFICER CERTIFICATIONS
Larry James reported that all officers' certifications have been renewed. JT said that
Kenny Spargur tracks licenses, classes, and hours needed and advises when due.
Ron said that they were working on certifying a fifth officer.
ITEM 5 — SHELTER STATISTICS REPORT
Chairman Maas noted that animals picked up went up from year '09 to year '10, dead
animals removed was up and calls for service went up. Animals bites stayed about the
same and adoptions about the same. Discussed reasons why calls for service to go up,
i.e., expansion of development and shelter staff are now counting the paper work done
for adoptions, spay/neuters and follow-up paper work as a call for service.

ITEM 6 - GAP FENCE REQUEST UPDATE
Leon spoke to City Manager. City will pay for fence to be installed. If the GAP Club
receives donations for fence installation, City will apply the donations to the cost of
fence materials. Estimate for fence and gate is approximately $800.
Leon requested that draft of ASAB meeting minutes be sent to Board members within a
month after the meeting instead of the week before the following meeting.
ITEM 7 - PET REGISTRATION
Discussed purpose of registering pets and why it is important for citizens to register in
person so that they can show written proof of rabies vaccination. One of the main
purposes for requiring pet registration was the rabies vaccination. If citizens are
allowed to call, fax, or register on line, they may not provide proof of rabies vaccination.
Larry said that more dogs are being returned home that have city tags on instead of
being taken to shelter.
Michelle explained Bedford's and Colleyville's pet registration policies. For the City of
Colleyville, she must see the written proof from the veterinarian that the animal is
current on rabies vaccination when registering animal with the city.
JT asked Larry to pull out a random sample of 10-15 registrations to verify proof of
rabies vaccination to determine if there are a large number of registrations that don't
have proof of rabies vaccination. Registration process can be changed if it is
determined that a large percentage of registrations don't have proof of rabies
vaccination.
Dr. Maas requested that a table be set up at Dog Daze to register pets. Larry will see
that someone from shelter is there to register pets.
ITEM 8 - DOG DAZE
Set Saturday, May 7th' (the first Saturday in May) to hold the event. Last year's setup
was good and event ran smoothly. Larry suggested moving the table with the food to
the area where the grooming table was since no groomers will be there this year. It will
make it easier for people to get food while standing in line for dog vaccinations. Michele
will check her calendar to see if she's available to help this year. Chairman Maas asked
Michelle if she would try to check with a snow cone vendor that she had met that lives in
Colleyville to see if the vendor would be interested in setting up their snow cone/ice

cream truck at Dog Daze in exchange they could donate a portion of their profits to the
shelter. Will need to find out if they will need a permit for Euless.
GAP Club shelter fundraiser will be a few weeks after Dog Daze. They usually have
groomers there.
Vaccinations offered at Dog Daze event will be advertised as at a reduced rate rather
than a set price. Chairman Maas said she can leave a price list at the shelter when she
knows what her costs will be as some citizens may call ahead of the event to ask for
prices.
ITEM 9 — BOARD MEMBERS OR CITIZENS REQUESTS OF ITEMS OF INTEREST
TO BE ADDRESSED BY STAFF AND/OR PLACED ON FUTURE AGENDAS
It was noted that this is the fourteenth year for Dog Daze.
Chairman Maas commented that the kennel room and the shelter building have heat
now. Larry said the air conditioning was okay. Two new heaters were installed.
Hope to have fence installed before next meeting. Discussed changing height to 4 ft.
high instead of 5 ft. which will reduce the cost of materials. Ron also mentioned that
the tree in the area to be fenced needs to be trimmed.
