MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING
OF THE
LIBRARY BOARD
THURSDAY, JUNE 6, 2019
ITEM NO. I CALLED TO ORDER
A regular meeting of the Euless Public Library Board was called to order by Chairman Snitz at
7:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 6, 2019, in the Board Room of the Library, 1100 Westpark Way.
Those present included Chairman Barney Snitz, Board Members Jim Hamilton, Leslie Kane, and
Chris McAllister. Vice Chairman Allan Gibbs, and Board Member Mike McGehee were not
present.

ITEM NO.2 APPROVED LIBRARY BOARD MINUTES
Chairman Snitz asked for a motion to accept the minutes with corrections of the regular meeting
held May 2, 2019. The motion was made by Board Member Hamilton and seconded by Board
Member Kane.
ITEM NO.3 WELCOMED VISITORS
Chairman Snitz welcomed all visitors that were present.
ITEM NO. 4 PRESENTED LIBRARY ADMINISTRATOR'S REPORT
❖ Family Place Certification Update
Library Director Sherry Knight gave a presentation on Family Place Libraries and the certification
process. She also discussed the week-long training sessions that she and Senior Youth Librarian
Angela Jones attended in New York.
Board Member Hamilton inquired about the length of time that Family Place Libraries have been
in existence and Ms. Knight informed the Board that the certification began in the 1970's.
Board Member McAllister mentioned that it was very similar to the school's Maker Space
initiative with the additional component of parental interaction.

Ms. Knight mentioned other libraries in the area with this certification and gave more information
on what was learned at the training in New York in May.
❖ Construction Update
Ms. Knight gave an update on the progress of the construction of the library and showed the board
drone footage of the current construction progress.
Board Member McAllister inquired about the patio furniture.
❖ Classes&Events Update
Ms. Knight gave an overview of past and present classes and events including the Euless Library
Foundation's sponsored events that included performances by Professor Brainius, David Slick
Magician, David Chicken, Dallas Zoo, and more. Ms. Knight also mentioned June's passive
program, "Coloring Together," and the library's involvement with HEB ISD and HEB Reads!
"Lunch and Learn" program. Ms. Knight also stated that they've noticed an increase in traffic at
Westpark and at the events.
Ms. Knight addressed a question asked last month of LuAnn Portugal about the statistics on
overdues and stated that, although high,the trend is declining from where it peaked 3 months ago.
ITEM NO. 5 REPORTS
Library Board Chairman
Chairman Snitz asked about the decline in library visits and Ms. Knight stated that they expected
that to go down and that Simmons Center is not included. Chairman Snitz also mentioned the
HEB Reads! Kickoff event that happened at the beginning of May.
Library Board Vice-Chairman
Not present.
Library Board Members
Board Member Hamilton mentioned a concert happening at the Texas Star Golf Course this Friday.
Board Member McAllister inquired about a lot of land and Ms. Portugal stated that it would be a
housing development.
ITEM NO. 6 PUBLIC COMMENTS
LuAnn Portugal of Euless, TX mentioned that a lot of the work that goes into the Family Place
requirements have already been in place at the Library.

ITEM NO. 7 ADJOURNMENT
Chairman Snitz asked for a motion to adjourn. The motion was made by Board Member
McAllister and seconded by Board Member Hamilton. The meeting was adjourned at 7:46 p.m.
