HomeMy WebLinkAbout2019-06-06TEEN COURT ADVISORY BOARD MINUTES MEETING OF JUNE 612019 STATE OF TEXAS § COUNTY OF TARRANT § CITY OF BEDFORD § The Teen Court Advisory Board of the cities of Hurst, Euless and Bedford, Texas met at 6:00 p.m. at Bedford City Hall on the 6th day of June 2019, with the following members present: HURST: Lorrie Dickerson EULESS: Robin Edwards, Diana Howard, Renu Sloan BEDFORD: Kathleen Toms, Phoenix Sheffield TEEN REPRESENTATIVES: Hurst Council Liaison — Bedford Council Liaison — Euless Council Liaison — Eddie Price HEB Teen Court Coordinator — Mindy Eichorst HEB Teen Court Assistant — Also present: Hurst City Secretary — Rita Frick Euless Staff Liaison — Claudia Quintero Bedford Court Manager — Doug Campbell Hurst Court Manager — HEB Teen Court Teen Liaison. Bedford Administrative Services Director - CALL TO ORDER Chairperson Kathleen Toms called the meeting to order at 6:02 p.m. with a quorum of six Board Members present. APPROVAL OF MINUTES 1. Consider approval of the following Teen Court Advisory Board minutes: a) March 7, 2019 Regular Meeting b) March 7, 2019 Gala Committee Meeting c) March 7, 2019 Scholarship Committee Meeting d) March 18, 2019 Gala Committee Meeting Phoenix Sheffield made a motion to approve the March 7, 2019 Regular Meeting minutes, March 7, 2019 Gala Committee Meeting minutes, March 7, 2019 Scholarship Committee Meeting minutes and March 18, 2019 Gala Committee Meeting minutes and Robin Edwards seconded the motion and all were in favor. allntroductions There was a new Member appointed to the HEB Teen Court Advisory Board from the City of Euless. Diana Howard was introduced and everyone introduced themselves and stated which city they represented. OLD BUSINESS 3. Discuss and possibly take action on items as they relate to 2019 annual Teen Court Scholarship Gala. Teen Court Coordinator Mindy Eichorst went over the expenses and revenue from the Gala. She explained the big expense was the four scholarships totaling $6,000 that were given to the Teen Recipients. The other major expense was the venue/food. Advisory Board Member Renu Sloan mentioned that plated meals are not always as good, that the food is sometimes cold and suggested looking into doing a buffet -style dinner. Chairperson Kathleen Toms agreed she liked the buffet -style dinner. All For G0000000d was the company that handled the silent auction and did a great job setting up jewelry, handbags, memorabilia, and trips. Renu Sloan mentioned she thought the trips were somewhat overpriced and to maybe do them as a live auction. Ms. Eichorst mentioned that the Advisory Board Members did a wonderful job of bringing donated items as well to be auctioned off at the Gala. Ms. Eichorst mentioned that everyone seemed to enjoy the speaker, Lyndy Phillips, and that the entire audience was laughing and entertained. She asked the Advisory Board to start thinking of a speaker for the 2020 Teen Court Scholarship Gala and bring the names to the next Advisory Board Meeting. NEW BUSINESS 4. Discuss and possibly take action on the 2020 annual Teen Court Scholarship Gala. Teen Court Coordinator Mindy Eichorst asked if there were any issues with any of the dates in April 2020 for the Teen Court Scholarship Gala. Someone mentioned that Friday, April 10, 2020 is Good Friday. Chairperson Kathleen Toms offered to check at Hurst Conference Center and Advisory Board Member Renu Sloan offered to check at Texas Star to see what was available on a Thursday evening for the month of April. The preference of dates are as follows: Thursday, April 16, April 23, and April 30, 2020. Advisory Board Member Lorrie Dickerson made a motion to pursue silent auction company, All For G0000000d, to assist the HEB Teen Court Scholarship Gala in 2020. Advisory Board Member Robin Edwards seconded the motion and all were in favor. Chairperson Kathleen Toms asked if All For G0000000d would be able to attend a future Advisory Board Meeting to discuss what they do and what types of silent auction items they have. Advisory Board Member Diana Howard mentioned that she works for American Airlines and could possibly get a donation from that business. 5. Discuss and possibly take action on a date for the next Teen Court Advisory Board Meeting. The next Advisory Board Meeting will be on Thursday, September 5, 2019 at 6:00 p.m. at Bedford City Hall. REPORTS Teen Court Coordinator Mindy Eichorst went over the Coordinator Report and also the Revenue and Expenditures of the Teen Court Scholarship Fund. ADJOURNMENT Lorrie Dickerson entered a motion for the meeting to be adjourned and Diana Howard seconded the motion and all voted in favor.
