the public hearing.
Mr, Gary Hill, 5641 "'herilynn Dr? 'e, Haltom City, Texas, representing First
Baptist Church of Euless, presented this request.uest. t" e stated that Ivy was the
Business Administrator for the First Baptist Church of Euless and had been ...n
that position for 4 years. He explained tl':,_at: they had Wa'.•.firu-m Signs come out
v.it.h a boor:r truck to determine the type, height, size and location of the sign.
needed. They conducted visibility tests, driving up and down the f'ree;way, to
determine the best placement and the desired height so the sign would be isibl. e
from both directions. Air. Hill then parsed out a topographic study prepared by
an architect showing a parallel or side view of the terrain.. ':e felt the sign
would d not affect the church's two neighbors (Ec truer Square Apts. and Mobil
Corp(-.)rat:ion) . The sign would he constructed as a dDubl"e ,:acs:, internally
lighted pole sign costing approximately $22,600.00.
Chairman Ingram asked if there were any other proponents. These .tieing none, he
asked if there were any opponents. There were none.
Chairman Ingr.rrrk questioned the need for that size of sign by a non-co rm-nerc iGai
institution since they were not trying to draw business from the freeway.
Mr, Hill stated they were the largest church in the `hrranr_ County area and the
church was used for a lot of joint activities with people coming from all over
the a."i'r-ea. The now sign would make exiting the freeway and locating the c.huri:in
much easier for Ire.°hcaners
Chairman ingi'am ciosed the public hearing and asked for discussion among
Cotfmi. sior: members.
?fir. Owens stated that he was against any sign f::c::mi"ng before the Co3r niss icon, but
since hie he was _iresent:, lie would take action. He Eel t that the P -inning S.
Zoning Commission was not the committee for deciding sign variations. He feels
that the re`.i3::•:oirasibilit_y lies with the City fathers and they should take action.
