HomeMy WebLinkAbout2019-09-09 Regular Meeting Parks and Leisure Services Board September 9th, 2019 CALL TO ORDER The regular meeting of the Parks and Leisure Services Board was called to order at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, September 9, 2019 in the Council Chambers of the Euless City Hall building by Chairman Randy Jones. Other Board Members present: John Raab, Isha Sharma, Steve Doty, Roger Sickler, Magen Brown, and Kay Seeger, and Jason Reyes. Staff members present: Director of Parks and Community Services Ray McDonald, Parks Manager Terry Boaz, and Administrative Secretary Myndi Muncy. Visitors present: INVOCATION Mr. Sickler gave the invocation. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Chairman Randy Jones asked if there were any additions or corrections to the minutes from the August 5, 2019 regular meeting. Mr. Sickler made the motion to approve the minutes as presented and was seconded by Mr. Reyes. The vote was unanimous. I. Board Member Reports a. Isha Sharma — Blessing Branch & Midway: No items to report. b. Magen Brown —J.A. Carr & Kiddie Carr: No items to report. c. Kay Seger— Preserve & Mcormick: Screw sticking out of a board at the fishing pier. d. Jason Reyes-VOBC & Reflection: No items to report. e. Randy Jones—S. Euless & Heritage: No items to report. f. Roger Sickler—Westpark & Wilshire: Piece of walkway lifting up. g. John Raab— Bob Eden &Trailwood: No items to report h. Steve Doty— Parks at Texas Star: No items to report. Parks and Leisure Services Board Page 1 II. Beautification Award a. Chairman Jones announced the September 2019 Residential Yard of the Month winner was Mr. & Mrs. Disabella at 212 arbor Glen Drive. This property has many different plant species that have thrived this summer even with our high temperatures. These hardy plants are Salvia Blue Queen, Sun Shine ligustrum, kaleidoscope Abelia, Lantana, color guard Yucca, well-trimmed Holly shrubs and plush green Bermuda grass to add to the curb Appeal.We appreciate their effort, and their award will be delivered to them. b. Chairman Jones announced the September 2019 Business/Civic/Governmental Beautification award winner goes to Raising Canes at 2901 TX-121. This property is located in Glade Parks and has a very nice curb appeal. This landscape is low maintenance and is well manicured and offers many drought tolerant plants such as Blue Rug Juniper, Indian Hawthorn, Little Gem Magnolia, Burford Holly Shrubs, large Chinese Pistache, and colorful Periwinkle plants. We appreciate their effort, and their award will be delivered to them. III. Business of the Tree Board Tree Board Chairman Jason Reyes reported the following for May: a. Total man hours for August 1-31 = 925 • 384.00 Horticulture • 120.00 Forestry • 167.00 Greenhouse • 254.00 Special Projects • 0.00 Training Removed trees and vines from resident's fence at Bob Eden Park. ➢ Raised trees at school zone. ➢ Trimmed trees at J.A. Carr. IV. Directors Report— Ray McDonald • Park project updates. Chairman Randy Jones thanked staff for their report. V. Other New Business No new business. VI.
