HomeMy WebLinkAbout1993-04-12 Euless Historical Preservation Committee Minutes April 12, 1993 Members and Staff Present: Diana Crawford, Bill Byers, Betty Fuller, Evelyn Himes, Helen Payton, Jean Whitener, Nina Winters, Rick Herold - Staff Liason Members Absent: Mazie Eden, Iva Nail, and Robert Nail Chairperson: Diana Crawford called the meeting to order at 10: 15 A.M. The minutes were read and approved with one correction. I. 1993 PROJECTS - MEMBER REPORTS A. Bill Byers showed members the 1943 map he made for display at the April 23-25 Arbor Daze celebration. James Fuller will enlarge a copy of the 1895 map from Evelyn Cushman's Northeast Tarrant County Cemetaries book for the Historical Preservation Committee booth. Chairperson Crawford will secure a copy of a 1950 Euless map housed at the Tarrant County Archives facility from Dee Barker, the archivist. B. Arbor Daze - Diana Crawford recorded the time of the 2 hour segments members volunteered to work at the Arbor Daze Historical Preservation Committee booth. The Mid-Cites Genealogical Society will assist in manning the booth. Jean Whitener volunteered to collect old photos of historical interest to display. Chairperson Crawford circulated a copy of the Historical Preservation Committee handout. C. Ironbridge Birthday Party - Nina Winters told the committee that South Euless sixth grade students would not have time the last month of school to prepare a time capsule and participate in a May Ironbridge Birthday Party celebration. After much discussion the committee decided that kindergarten students were a bit immature to be used instead, therefore, the date of the Ironbridge Ceremony will be rescheduled for early fall. D. Taped interviews - Betty Fuller reported that she had taped an interview with Warren Fuller. Chairperson Crawford told the members that these tapes would be housed in dedicated space at the new library facility. In addition, the Tarrant County Historical Commission will allow the Euless Historical Preservation Committee to store materials at their old Civil courts Building location. II. OLD BUSINESS A. Betty Fuller reported information about her attendance at the March 31 , 1993 Tarrant County Historical Commission meeting. III. NEW BUSINESS A. Nina Winters informed members of the following: * a bill introduced in the state legislature which eliminates the Texas State Historical commission * Ron Wilson's legislation to place the Alamo under the auspices of Texas Parks and Wildlife rather than the Daughters of the Republic of Texas * Placement of the Pioneer Woman's statue on the state capitol grounds by the District 8 division of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas B. Rick Herold discussed a potential field trip to Farmer's Branch Historical Park. The meeting adjourned at 11:30 A.M. Members viewed Weldon Cannons' Video "Euless, A Miracle of Survival 1880-1920" .
