HomeMy WebLinkAbout1993-08-09 Euless Historical Preservation Committee Minutes August 9, 1993 Members and Staff Present: Diana Crawford, Mazie Eden, Betty Fuller, Evelyn Rimes, Helen Payton, Jean Whitener, and Nina Winters Staff Present: Rick Herold, Katherine Thompson and Julia Wakeley Visitors Present: Mary Lib Saleh and Henry Boatright (City Council), Weldon Cannon and Lawrence Jernigan The meeting was called to order by Diana Crawford at 10:07 A.M. The minutes of the July meeting were approved as corrected. I. 1993 Projects A. Ironbridge Birthday Celebration - Nina Winters outlined the following plans for the celebration: Date: Friday, October 8, 1993 Tire: 2:00 P.M. There: Bridge to the Future Participants: South Euless 6th grade students Euless Junior High 7th grade students(Social Studies/English departments) Essay Contest: "Euless - 2043" Speaker: Mary Lib Saleh Time Capsule: * 6 inch pipe * City proclamation * Essays * photos (responsibility of Rick Herold's Department) Signs: * 2 replicas completed - Rick Herold Invitation List: * Helen Payton * Members to contribute names Plaque: Julia Wakeley/Betty Fuller * Title - Bridge to the Future Date Names of City Council members Euless Historical Preservation Committee Printed Program: Rick Herold's Dept. Souvenirs: Wooden nickels, bookmarks, or pins Refreshments: punch, cookies (napkins, cups) B. Oral History - Betty Fuller will develop a form to obtain written permission to tape * Video tape and transcribe both video and cassette tapes C. Euless Church Histories - Mazie Eden has developed a form letter informing ministers of project and a request for information which will be mailed in late September. D. Photo Collection - Jean Whitener has collected 15 photos - had negatives made and filed for archives. II. Old Business A. The following alternates to the Euless Historical Preservation Committee will be sent a written communication to ask if they are interested in serving on the committee: * Onease Booher * Weldon Cannon * Keith Jernigan * Reta Ray B. Weldon Cannon was asked about the feasibility of writing a book about Euless. Members were requested to prepare and bring a list to the September meeting of what should be included in a historical book about Euless. The possibility of including stories was discussed. Weldon Cannon also agreed to research and submit information to obtain historical markers for historical sites in the city. He will submit a list at a future meeting. III. New Business Rick Herold informed the committee of the existence of the availability of grants for funding historical sites i.e. bike paths etc. At 11:45 A.M. Nina Winters' motion to adjourn was seconded by Jean Whitener. The motion was approved and the meeting adjourned. Submitted by secretary, Betty Fuller August 16, 1993
